Overview

Description from the maker (original English)

Which source domains AI answer engines cite, by buyer category and question shape.

PopNx MCP’s three pillars

These three are never merged into one score: opinions, measurements and popularity are different things.

What you can do with it

We have not written a plain-language summary for this one yet. Below are the facts we read from the registry.

  • Connection: Runs in the cloud
  • Transport: Streamable HTTP
  • Category: Developer tools

Install

Pick the AI app you use, then copy the settings.

Before you install

You need

Which app do you use?

Pick your app above. We remember it, so next time the button says “Install in …”.

Works in Claude on the web, desktop and mobile:

  1. Open Settings → Connectors
  2. Press Add custom connector
  3. Paste the address below and press Add
  4. If it asks you to sign in, sign in with the maker
SettingsConnectors1+ Add2https://…3
https://machinerelations.ai/mcp

Run this in your terminal

claude mcp add --transport http mri https://machinerelations.ai/mcp

Open in Cursor

Or copy the settings yourself

Paste into .cursor/mcp.json in your project, or ~/.cursor/mcp.json

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "mri": {
      "url": "https://machinerelations.ai/mcp"
    }
  }
}

Your browser asks to open the app, then the app shows the settings and asks you to confirm. Key values are left empty for you to fill in.

Open in VS Code

Or copy the settings yourself

Paste into .vscode/mcp.json in your project

{
  "servers": {
    "mri": {
      "type": "http",
      "url": "https://machinerelations.ai/mcp"
    }
  }
}

Your browser asks to open the app, then the app shows the settings and asks you to confirm. Key values are left empty for you to fill in.

ChatGPT connects only to servers on the internet:

  1. Open ChatGPT on the web → Settings → Connectors (Apps)
  2. Press Create or Add (some plans need Developer mode under Advanced first)
  3. Paste the address below, give it a name and save
  4. If it asks you to sign in, sign in with the maker
SettingsConnectors1+ Create2https://…3
https://machinerelations.ai/mcp

Menu names can differ slightly by plan and over time.

Your choice stays on this device in a cookie; no account needed.

These settings are generated from the maker’s registry entry. If the README says otherwise, follow the README.

What it can do

Tool names and descriptions exactly as the server reported them on Nov 7, 2026. The maker wrote them, not us; we show them as plain text.

  • mri_list_categories

    List every Machine Relations Index category (e.g. cybersecurity, fintech, enterprise-software, ai-visibility-geo) with the question shapes that have published citation rates, plus the source-role vocabulary. Call this first to get a valid category key.

  • mri_get_category

    Return one category's question shapes (best tools, how buyers choose, comparisons, top lists, problem-first research, is it worth it, news) and the evidence state of each: published with rates, collecting, or not collectable.

  • mri_get_cited_sources

    Ranked source domains that AI answer engines cite, pooled across engines, for one category and question shape, with citation rate (share of monitored answer runs citing the domain), rank, percentile and source role (editorial publication, vendor-owned, analyst research, community

  • mri_get_domain

    For one domain or URL, return how often AI answer engines cite it: overall citation rate, the rate on each engine (overall.byEngine: cited runs, that engine's observed runs, and whether the engine's sample clears the evidence floor), confidence tier, rank among all cited domains

  • mri_list_engines

    List each answer engine with the model the release roster names, the engine's observed runs and days, whether that sample clears the evidence floor, and the most-cited source on that engine across the whole window.

  • mri_get_engine

    Ranked sources one answer engine cites, by that engine's citation rate across the whole window; an engine whose collection changed inside the window also returns collectionRegime, its sources since the change, which is what it cites now. Pass category to limit the list to sources

Common questions

Is Machine Relations Index safe?

It passed 3 of 3 applicable basic checks. We have not read the code. Before adding a key or token, see what access the server asks for and use a key with only the permissions you need.

What keys or codes does it need?

The registry does not list a required key, though some servers ask you to sign in on first use.

Does it run on my computer or in the cloud?

It runs in the maker’s cloud. Connect over the internet with nothing to install, but what you send passes through the maker’s servers.

Is it still maintained?

The GitHub repo last changed –, and the latest version (1.1.0) reached the registry 10 days ago.

Which apps can use it?

Apps that support MCP, such as Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor and VS Code. It connects by URL, so apps that accept remote MCP servers work too, such as ChatGPT in developer mode.

What can I use instead?

In the same category: GitHub, Desktop Commander, Cloudflare MCP

Machine Relations plugins

The official Machine Relations skill and plugin helps practitioners choose and draft an evidence-backed authority intervention for a brand or client. It supports AI visibility, GEO/AEO, SEO content discovery and digital PR work, with separate execution checks and intended-outcome tests. No AuthorityTech purchase is required.

The package includes the broader machine-relations skill alongside the existing machine-relations-index research skill. The Machine Relations Index (MRI) by Jaxon Parrott remains neutral public measurement of which source domains AI answer engines cite in sampled buyer answers, by category and question shape. Broader work can also use public or client-supplied evidence without MRI coverage.

The plugin retains the package identifier machine-relations-index and remote MCP server at https://machinerelations.ai/mcp (read-only, no account). It exposes six research tools:

ToolWhat it answers
mri_list_categoriesWhich categories, question shapes and source roles the Index covers
mri_get_categoryOne category's question shapes and whether each has published rates
mri_get_cited_sourcesThe ranked source domains AI engines cite for a category and question shape
mri_get_domainHow often a site is cited, by which engines, and where it ranks
mri_list_enginesWhich engines have observations and published evidence
mri_get_engineOne engine’s cited-source leaderboard over the observed window, optionally limited to sources with a published segment in a category

Install

Codex

codex plugin marketplace add Bramwell-Inc/machinerelations-plugins

Then install the Machine Relations package (identifier machine-relations-index) from that marketplace. Published directory versions may still display Machine Relations Index; verify that your installed version includes machine-relations before expecting the broader workflow.

Claude Code

/plugin marketplace add Bramwell-Inc/machinerelations-plugins

/plugin install machine-relations-index@machinerelations

Any MCP client: add a remote (streamable HTTP) server with URL https://machinerelations.ai/mcp. It is also listed in the official MCP Registry as ai.machinerelations/mri.

No MCP: the same reads are a JSON API at https://machinerelations.ai/api/mri/v2 (OpenAPI).

An MCP connection alone supplies research tools; it does not install the skill. The broader skill is at plugins/machine-relations-index/skills/machine-relations/SKILL.md for compatible skill hosts. New instructions do not require changing Editor's private method, the App journey or the Index's measurement.

Data

Every response carries its release ID, the artifact hash and a citation string. MRI data is licensed CC BY 4.0. Dataset citation: Machine Relations Index (MRI) by Jaxon Parrott, Machine Relations Research — machinerelations.ai. https://machinerelations.ai/index. https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.23652423. Methodology: https://machinerelations.ai/machine-relations-index.

The plugin package in this repository is MIT licensed.

Use and interpretation

Start with the worked example and agent entry point. The example preserves one historical release; it is not a live leaderboard.

Every successful current data read includes source.guidance, the live interpretation rules. The skill directs agents there and to any field-specific method and limitations. Daily data and interpretation updates therefore do not require rebuilding this plugin. Missing or null question context is unavailable, never zero; the service describes what the current release actually contains.

Releases and citation

Every version is released once, from a reviewed pull request, and the release is the single source for everything else:

  1. A pull request that changes the package raises one version in both plugin manifests, every SKILL.md (metadata.version), CHANGELOG.md and CITATION.cff. The Validate and package check enforces that, the exact AuthorityTech descriptor, and that no internal identifiers or secrets reach the README, changelog, citation or packaged plugin files; it also proves fresh installs in Codex and Claude Code. Semver: a minor version adds or graduates a method, a patch corrects wording or metadata, a major version changes a tool or endpoint.
  2. When the bump merges, the same workflow deposits the tested files on Zenodo (it rebuilds library.json with the reserved DOIs and refuses to continue if any other file differs from the tested build), which gives the version its own DOI, then publishes the GitHub release with library.json (every skill, version, DOI and sha256), the plugin ZIP, one archive per skill and SHA256SUMS.
  3. machinerelations.ai/skill and jaxonparrott.com/skills, and their /.well-known/agent-skills/index.json, rebuild from https://github.com/Bramwell-Inc/machinerelations-plugins/releases/latest/download/library.json. Nothing is copied by hand.

Cite the library with its concept DOI, 10.5281/zenodo.23749768 (all versions); cite a version DOI only for work that used that exact version. Both are in library.json and on each release. CITATION.cff gives the author record. The library's Wikidata item is Q141909117.

A skill can carry metadata.title and metadata.summary (a human name and a one-sentence practitioner summary; not the description trigger text). Pages use them when present.

Directory listings (Claude, ChatGPT) update through their own review and can lag the latest release. The remote MCP service owns the Index's data and interpretation; daily data never requires a plugin release. The review/ captures and video are dated evidence, not current API documentation.
