• lookup_vin

  Decode a 17-character VIN (via NHTSA vPIC) and return the matching Torque Index engine platform, vehicle configuration pages and the recalls and bulletins that apply. Fitment is year x model x engine; cab and wheelbase are not modeled.

• find_part_number

  Find which part a Ford, Mopar, GM or aftermarket part number is, which engine it fits and what it replaced or was replaced by. Dashes and spaces are ignored; at least 4 characters. Returns up to 25 parts.

• get_page

  Return the markdown version of a Torque Index page by its path, e.g. /platforms/cummins-6_7/, /failure-modes/ /, /parts/ /, /recalls/ /, /repair-costs/, /blog/ /. Use the URLs returned by the other tools.

• list_platforms

  List every engine platform Torque Index covers, with its page, recalls page and part count.

• get_failure_modes

  Every documented failure mode of one engine platform: name, provenance tier, how common it is and the first symptom owners report. Open a failure's page (get_page) for root cause, diagnosis, fixes and parts. Use list_platforms for the platform ids.

• get_recalls

  NHTSA safety recalls on record for one engine platform: campaign number, date, component, model years and the summary. Whether a recall is still OPEN on a specific VIN is not known here. The recalls page (get_page) also lists defect investigations and manufacturer bulletins.

• get_repair_cost

  The parts budget of every documented failure we can price on one engine platform: band, low and high USD, whether the prices are exact (Dave's Auto Center retail). Parts only, no labor.

• get_service_specs

  Owner's-manual service cards for one engine platform, one card per manual year: oil capacity, grade and the maker's oil specification, oil/fuel/air filter numbers, coolant.

• get_symptoms

  Given what a truck does (hard start, power loss, white smoke, coolant loss, noise, DEF warnings ...), list the documented failure modes that show that sign, per engine. Lists documented causes; it does not diagnose a truck.

• search

  Find concept pages by words: engine hubs, failure modes, recipes, symptom pages, blog guides and reference hubs. For parts use find_part_number; for a specific truck use lookup_vin.
