Spec Driven Development
MCP Server that facilitates spec-driven development workflows, not just Vibe Coding.
Beschreibung vom Entwickler (englisches Original)
Read Messages history on macOS and send or reply through Messages.app.

MCP server for Apple Messages on macOS.
Provides access to message history, conversation search, and sending via Messages.app. Requires Automation access for sending, and Full Disk Access for history and reliable file sending.
search_tools and get_tool_info for context-constrained clientsmessages_permission_guide, messages_recheck_permissionsQuick start (uvx, from PyPI)
With uv installed:
uvx apple-messages-mcp
No clone, no venv management.
From a clone
git clone https://github.com/JonathanRReed/Apple-MCPs.git
cd Apple-MCPs uv sync --all-packages
This builds one workspace environment with every server's entry point in .venv/bin (for example .venv/bin/apple-messages-mcp). You can also point an MCP client at AppleMessages-MCP/start.sh, which prefers uv run and falls back to a plain venv bootstrap (Python 3.11+ required).
Generic MCP client config
{
"mcpServers": { "apple-messages": { "command": "uvx", "args": ["apple-messages-mcp"], "env": { "APPLE_MESSAGES_MCP_SAFETY_MODE": "full_access" } } } }
Running from a clone instead? Use /path/to/Apple-MCPs/AppleMessages-MCP/start.sh as the command with empty args.
Claude Code example
claude mcp add --transport stdio --scope user apple-messages -- uvx apple-messages-mcp
--scope user makes the server available in every project. To share it with one repository through its .mcp.json instead, use --scope project.
stdio is the default and recommended transport. Set APPLE_MESSAGES_MCP_TRANSPORT=streamable-http (with optional APPLE_MESSAGES_MCP_HOST and APPLE_MESSAGES_MCP_PORT) to serve Streamable HTTP instead.
~/Library/Messages/chat.db, and lets messages_send_attachment copy a file where Messages can read itmessages_health checks running state through NSRunningApplication, without sending Apple Events or requesting Automation access. Closed Messages reports automation_access_status: "not_probed"; running Messages reports "unknown". Neither means permission was denied.automation_access and send-capability booleans are false when authorization is unverified. Explicit send tools still work when the user has authorized the operation. automation_access_status and automation_access_error_code distinguish skipped checks, unknown authorization, denial, and command failure. An explicit send or reply still checks authorization and may open Messages or show the macOS permission prompt.uvx apple-messages-mcp (or a clone's AppleMessages-MCP/start.sh) to your MCP clientmessages_health firstmessages_permission_guidemessages_recheck_permissionstools/list returns the full Messages tool surface. Context-constrained clients can use search_tools first, then get_tool_info for the Messages tool they need.messages_send_attachment sends only files inside the allowed folders and returns PATH_NOT_ALLOWED for any other path. Set APPLE_MESSAGES_MCP_ALLOWED_ROOTS to a comma-separated list of folders (~ means your home folder), or "Folders Messages may send files from" in the Claude Desktop extension settings. Without it, Messages uses APPLE_FILES_MCP_ALLOWED_ROOTS, then the same defaults as Files: Desktop, Documents, Downloads and iCloud Drive, where they exist.messages_send_attachment sends a private copy from ~/Library/Messages/Attachments/apple-mcp, because Messages can fail to read user folders. Messages keeps using that copy after the send, so copies aren't removed, and deleting one may break that file in the conversation. The tool waits up to 20 seconds for Messages to confirm the transfer and sends any text afterwards. It returns ATTACHMENT_NOT_DELIVERED if the file failed and SEND_STATUS_UNKNOWN if Messages hasn't confirmed it, so check the conversation before sending again. Without Full Disk Access the copy can't be made, and the file is sent directly.messages_send_message, messages_send_attachment and messages_reply_in_conversation accept an optional service_name of iMessage, SMS or RCS. Without it, new messages go out as iMessage, and one-to-one replies use the service of the thread's latest message: SMS threads stay SMS, and RCS threads use RCS, falling back to SMS. The account is chosen as the first enabled Messages account of that service type. SMS and RCS go through the paired iPhone and need Text Message Forwarding turned on for this Mac. Without a matching account the tools return SERVICE_UNAVAILABLE instead of sending, so a reply in an SMS thread on a Mac without Text Message Forwarding fails until you retry with service_name iMessage or turn forwarding on. RCS needs macOS 15 or later; on older macOS, RCS threads fall back to SMS. Group replies always use the group's existing service, and a different service_name is rejected with INVALID_INPUT. The response's service_name reports the service actually used.
