MCP Server that facilitates spec-driven development workflows, not just Vibe Coding.
Beschreibung vom Entwickler (englisches Original)
MCP server for Atera RMM — customers, tickets, and more.

Model Context Protocol (MCP) server for interacting with the Atera RMM API. Implements a decision tree architecture for efficient tool discovery and reduced context overhead.
[!IMPORTANT]
Before you click: this server depends on
@wyre-technology/node-atera,
which is hosted on the GitHub Packages npm registry. GitHub Packages has no
anonymous access — even though the package is public, every
npm installneeds a
token. The cloud builder runs
npm installfor you, so you must give it one, or
the build fails with
npm error 401 Unauthorized ... npm.pkg.github.com.
1. Create a GitHub Personal Access Token with the
read:packagesscope
Any GitHub account works — you do not need to be a member of the
WYRE-AIorg to read its public packages.
2. Add it as a build variable when prompted by the deploy flow:
- Cloudflare Workers → set a build variable named `NODE_AUTH_TOKEN` to your PAT
(Workers → Settings → Build → Variables and Secrets).
- DigitalOcean App Platform → set an encrypted env var named `GITHUB_TOKEN`
with scope Build Time to your PAT (the
.do/app.yamlalready declares it).
[!NOTE]
The DigitalOcean target builds the full Docker image and runs the complete MCP
server over HTTP — this is the recommended path for operators. The Cloudflare
Workers target is currently a thin entrypoint stub (the
/mcproute returns
501 Not Implemented) and is best suited to gateway-style deployments; for a
full self-hosted server prefer DigitalOcean or the prebuilt container image
(
ghcr.io/wyre-ai/atera-mcp).
atera_tickets_get renders as an interactive card in MCP Apps hosts (Claude Desktop/web) with an in-card "Add comment" round-trip via atera_tickets_add_comment (internal-only by default); plain-JSON behavior is unchanged in other hosts. The card is neutral by default and brandable via window.__BRAND__ injection or MCP_BRAND_* env vars (MCP_BRAND_NAME, MCP_BRAND_LOGO_URL, MCP_BRAND_PRIMARY_COLOR, MCP_BRAND_ACCENT_COLOR, MCP_BRAND_BG, MCP_BRAND_TEXT) — no rebuild needed.This package is published to the GitHub Packages npm registry, which requires a token even for public packages. Authenticate once, then install:
# Authenticate npm to GitHub Packages (token needs the read:packages scope)
export NODE_AUTH_TOKEN=$(gh auth token) # or a PAT with read:packages
npm install @wyre-ai/atera-mcp
The repo's .npmrc already points the @wyre-ai scope at GitHub Packages and reads the token from NODE_AUTH_TOKEN, so no further config is needed.
Or build from source:
git clone https://github.com/WYRE-AI/atera-mcp.git
cd atera-mcp npm install npm run build
Copy .env.example and set the variables below.
| Variable | Required | Description |
|---|---|---|
ATERA_API_KEY | For stdio and AUTH_MODE=env | Atera API token or legacy API key from Admin > Data management > API. JWT tokens are sent as Authorization: Bearer; legacy keys are sent as X-API-KEY. The Compose gateway service does not load this variable. |
MCP_TRANSPORT | No | stdio (default) or http |
AUTH_MODE | No | gateway (Docker image and Compose default) or env. Gateway mode requires X-Atera-API-Key on each /mcp request and never falls back to ATERA_API_KEY. env uses that variable only after S2S auth succeeds. |
CONDUIT_S2S_SECRET | Yes for HTTP | Service-to-service secret. Generate with openssl rand -hex 32. The HTTP server logs an error and exits non-zero when this is empty or a known placeholder (changeme, your-s2s-secret, secret, placeholder, and similar public examples). Compose will not start without it. Never commit a real value. The value is never logged. |
MCP_ALLOW_INSECURE_DEV | No | Set to exactly 1 only for local development to start HTTP without CONDUIT_S2S_SECRET. The process logs a warning, does not enforce X-Gateway-S2S, and forces the listener onto 127.0.0.1 even if MCP_HTTP_HOST is a wider address. A known placeholder secret is still refused. |
MCP_HTTP_HOST | No | Bind address when MCP_TRANSPORT=http. Defaults to 127.0.0.1 when unset. A configured CONDUIT_S2S_SECRET honors this value. The container image sets 0.0.0.0. |
MCP_HTTP_PORT | No | HTTP port. Defaults to 8080. |
/health stays unauthenticated and does not read credentials. The stdio transport does not use CONDUIT_S2S_SECRET.
With MCP_TRANSPORT=http and CONDUIT_S2S_SECRET set, every /mcp request must include X-Gateway-S2S. The check is verifyS2sHeader in src/s2s-verify.ts: the header value is t= ,v1= , where the hex is HMAC-SHA256 of the literal string t= keyed with CONDUIT_S2S_SECRET (64 lowercase hex characters). The timestamp must be within 300 seconds of the server clock. A missing or invalid header returns HTTP 401 before vendor credentials are read.
TS=$(date +%s)
SIG=$(printf 't=%s' "$TS" | openssl dgst -sha256 -hmac "$CONDUIT_S2S_SECRET" -hex | awk '{print $NF}') curl -sS http://127.0.0.1:8080/mcp \ -H 'Content-Type: application/json' \ -H 'Accept: application/json, text/event-stream' \ -H "X-Gateway-S2S: t=${TS},v1=${SIG}" \ -H "X-Atera-API-Key: $ATERA_API_KEY" \ -d '{"jsonrpc":"2.0","id":1,"method":"tools/list"}'
In AUTH_MODE=gateway, /mcp also requires X-Atera-API-Key. That header is the only credential source for the request. With AUTH_MODE=env, the signed request uses ATERA_API_KEY from the environment when the header is absent.
JWT tokens (issuer AteraInterop) authenticate with Authorization: Bearer. Legacy static keys authenticate with X-API-KEY. This server selects the header from the key shape, including when the installed node-atera client still sends only X-API-KEY.
Add to your claude_desktop_config.json:
{
"mcpServers": { "atera": { "command": "npx", "args": ["@wyre-ai/atera-mcp"], "env": { "ATERA_API_KEY": "your-api-key-here" } } } }
Configure in the gateway registry:
{
"name": "atera-mcp", "command": "node", "args": ["/path/to/atera-mcp/dist/index.js"], "env": { "ATERA_API_KEY": "${ATERA_API_KEY}" } }
The image listens on 0.0.0.0 inside the container (MCP_HTTP_HOST) and defaults to AUTH_MODE=gateway. Publish the port on loopback and pass a real S2S secret. In gateway mode the Atera API key arrives on each request as X-Atera-API-Key; it is not read from the environment.
# Generate the secret first: openssl rand -hex 32
docker build -t atera-mcp . docker run \ -e CONDUIT_S2S_SECRET \ -p 127.0.0.1:8080:8080 \ atera-mcp
Compose refuses to start when CONDUIT_S2S_SECRET is unset, defaults AUTH_MODE to gateway, does not inject ATERA_API_KEY, and publishes 127.0.0.1:8080:8080:
CONDUIT_S2S_SECRET="$CONDUIT_S2S_SECRET" docker compose up
Single-tenant HTTP (AUTH_MODE=env) still requires the S2S secret, then uses ATERA_API_KEY:
docker run \
-e CONDUIT_S2S_SECRET \ -e AUTH_MODE=env \ -e ATERA_API_KEY=your-key \ -p 127.0.0.1:8080:8080 \ atera-mcp
Local HTTP without a secret is development-only. It binds 127.0.0.1 only and logs a warning. A non-loopback MCP_HTTP_HOST is ignored and the override is logged:
MCP_TRANSPORT=http MCP_ALLOW_INSECURE_DEV=1 npm start
This server uses a navigation-based approach to tool discovery:
atera_navigate tool is availableatera_navigate with a domain (customers, agents, tickets, alerts, contacts)tools.listChanged and sends notifications/tools/list_changed so the client re-fetches tools/listatera_back to return to domain selection (this also sends notifications/tools/list_changed)This architecture:
Manage customer (company) records.
atera_customers_list - List customers with paginationatera_customers_get - Get customer by IDatera_customers_create - Create new customerManage devices/endpoints with the Atera agent installed.
atera_agents_list - List agents with optional customer filteratera_agents_get - Get agent by IDatera_agents_get_by_machine - Get agent by machine nameManage service tickets.
atera_tickets_list - List tickets with filtersatera_tickets_get - Get ticket by IDatera_tickets_create - Create new ticketatera_tickets_update - Update existing ticketMonitor alerts from devices and agents.
