Overview

Description from the maker (original English)

AI compliance attestation for EU AI Act, SR 11-7, HIPAA. Free local tier, no key required.

PopNx MCP’s three pillars

These three are never merged into one score: opinions, measurements and popularity are different things.

What you can do with it

We have not written a plain-language summary for this one yet. Below are the facts we read from the registry.

  • Connection: Runs on your computer
  • Transport: stdio
  • Category: Other
  • You need to fill in: RUBRIC_API_KEY

Install

Pick the AI app you use, then copy the settings.

Before you install

  • Basic checks: 1 of 1 passed
  • Runs on your computer with your user’s permissions (files, network, apps).
  • You fill in yourself: RUBRIC_API_KEY

Values marked secret are keys to your account. Never share them or paste them into a chat.

You need

  • npmNode.js installed (for the npx command)

Which app do you use?

Pick your app above. We remember it, so next time the button says “Install in …”.

Open Claude Desktop → Settings → Developer → Edit Config, and paste this into claude_desktop_config.json

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "rubric-protocol": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": [
        "-y",
        "@rubric-protocol/mcp-server"
      ],
      "env": {
        "RUBRIC_API_KEY": "your-value"
      }
    }
  }
}

Run this in your terminal

claude mcp add rubric-protocol --env RUBRIC_API_KEY=your-value -- npx -y @rubric-protocol/mcp-server

Fill in the empty values before running it.

Open in Cursor

Or copy the settings yourself

Paste into .cursor/mcp.json in your project, or ~/.cursor/mcp.json

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "rubric-protocol": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": [
        "-y",
        "@rubric-protocol/mcp-server"
      ],
      "env": {
        "RUBRIC_API_KEY": "your-value"
      }
    }
  }
}

Your browser asks to open the app, then the app shows the settings and asks you to confirm. Key values are left empty for you to fill in.

Open in VS Code

Or copy the settings yourself

Paste into .vscode/mcp.json in your project

{
  "servers": {
    "rubric-protocol": {
      "type": "stdio",
      "command": "npx",
      "args": [
        "-y",

      ],
      "env": {
        "RUBRIC_API_KEY": "your-value"
      }
    }
  }
}

Your browser asks to open the app, then the app shows the settings and asks you to confirm. Key values are left empty for you to fill in.

This one runs on your computer, and ChatGPT can only connect to servers on the internet. Pick another app.

Your choice stays on this device in a cookie; no account needed.

Values you fill in

  • RUBRIC_API_KEY secret env
    Rubric API key for Hedera mainnet anchoring. Optional — omit for free local PQ-signed attestation.

These settings are generated from the maker’s registry entry. If the README says otherwise, follow the README.

Common questions

Is Rubric Protocol safe?

It passed 1 of 1 applicable basic checks. We have not read the code. Before adding a key or token, see what access the server asks for and use a key with only the permissions you need.

What keys or codes does it need?

You need to fill in: RUBRIC_API_KEY

Does it run on my computer or in the cloud?

It runs on your computer. Your AI app starts it when needed, and data does not pass through the maker’s servers (unless it calls an online service itself).

Is it still maintained?

The GitHub repo last changed –, and the latest version (2.0.2) reached the registry 7 months ago.

Which apps can use it?

Apps that support MCP, such as Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor and VS Code. You also need Node.js on your computer.

What can I use instead?

@rubric-protocol/mcp-server

Post-quantum AI compliance attestation as an MCP server. Works with Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor, Windsurf, Continue, Zed, and any MCP-compatible host.

v2.0 — now with free local tier. No API key required to start attesting.

Install

npm install -g @rubric-protocol/mcp-server

Configure (Claude Desktop)

Edit claude_desktop_config.json:

{ "mcpServers": { "rubric": { "command": "npx", "args": ["-y", "@rubric-protocol/mcp-server"], "env": { "RUBRIC_API_KEY": "optional-for-hcs-anchoring" } } } }

Restart Claude Desktop. Rubric tools appear in the MCP menu.

Tiers

Free (no key)
  • attest — PQ-signed Merkle leaves stored in ~/.rubric/local-bundles/
  • verify — check local attestations
  • framework_detect — detect applicable regulations offline
  • cost_estimate — project monthly cost
  • register_agent — request a free key to unlock HCS anchoring
  • status — federation health
With API key (free developer tier)

Everything above, plus:

  • HCS anchoring on Hedera mainnet (tamper-evident third-party timestamp)
  • get_proof — ZK Merkle inclusion proofs (Noir/Barretenberg)

Request a key via the register_agent tool, or at https://rubric-protocol.com

Standard+ tier ($999/mo)
  • compliance_tag — attach regulatory framework tags to bundles
  • bundle_query — filter by leafType, agentId, time range
  • 100K attestations/mo, overage $0.01 each
Enterprise ($9,999/mo) / Dedicated ($25K+/mo)

Higher throughput, SLA, dedicated federation capacity.

Paid evidence tools (x402) - new in 2.2

Six tools that pay per call in USDC on Base via the x402 protocol. No Rubric account or API key required - just a funded wallet. Every response carries a signed, Hedera-anchored attestation ID your agent can cite later.

ToolPriceWhat you get
screen_entity$0.01Sanctions/export-control screening across OFAC SDN + Consolidated, UN, UK OFSI, EU, and BIS lists (76K+ entries): per-list results, list file hashes, anchored attestation - audit evidence you screened, against which versions, and what it said
attested_inference$0.01gpt-4o-mini completion plus attestation binding prompt hash, response hash, exact model version, timestamp - evidence of which model said what, when
agent_record$0.005Unforgeable operating history for any agent attesting through Rubric - record count, first-seen, continuity - from HCS-anchored records that cannot be backdated
wallet_record$0.005Attested x402 payment history for any Base/EVM buyer wallet, from an append-only settlement ledger - evidence, not opinion
verify_audit$0.002Independent audit of any Rubric attestation: signature, HCS sequence, mirror-node confirmation - a signed verdict with its own attestation ID
hedera_fact$0.001One attested Hedera network fact (exchange rate, gas, supply, nodes, throughput, topic state)
Setup (3 steps)
  1. Create a wallet and fund it with a few dollars of USDC on Base (Coinbase -> withdraw USDC -> network: Base)
  2. Set RUBRIC_WALLET_KEY to the wallet's private key in your MCP server environment
  3. Optional: RUBRIC_X402_DAILY_LIMIT (default 1.00 USD/day)
Money safety, by design
  • No wallet key? Paid tools return setup guidance - never errors, never charges.
  • Daily ceiling. Spending stops at your limit; the tool returns a budget error your agent can read. Resets 00:00 UTC.
  • Price protection. Before paying, each tool checks the server's quoted price against its documented maximum and refuses anything higher - even we cannot overcharge you.
  • Full accounting. Every paid response includes spentTodayUsd.
  • Your key never leaves the MCP process. A failed operation is never charged.

Catalog, prices, and terms are machine-readable at x402.json and openapi.json.
