Overview

Description from the maker (original English)

SF Peninsula building permits and parcel buildability: SB 9, ADU and redevelopment leads.

PopNx MCP’s three pillars

These three are never merged into one score: opinions, measurements and popularity are different things.

What you can do with it

We have not written a plain-language summary for this one yet. Below are the facts we read from the registry.

  • Connection: Runs on your computer
  • Transport: stdio
  • Category: Other
  • You need to fill in: ADDRESSINTEL_API_KEY

Install

Pick the AI app you use, then copy the settings.

Before you install

  • Basic checks: 1 of 1 passed
  • Runs on your computer with your user’s permissions (files, network, apps).
  • You fill in yourself: ADDRESSINTEL_API_KEY

Values marked secret are keys to your account. Never share them or paste them into a chat.

You need

  • npmNode.js installed (for the npx command)

Which app do you use?

Pick your app above. We remember it, so next time the button says “Install in …”.

Open Claude Desktop → Settings → Developer → Edit Config, and paste this into claude_desktop_config.json

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "permits": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": [
        "-y",
        "addressintel-mcp"
      ],
      "env": {
        "ADDRESSINTEL_API_KEY": "your-value"
      }
    }
  }
}

Run this in your terminal

claude mcp add permits --env ADDRESSINTEL_API_KEY=your-value -- npx -y addressintel-mcp

Fill in the empty values before running it.

Open in Cursor

Or copy the settings yourself

Paste into .cursor/mcp.json in your project, or ~/.cursor/mcp.json

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "permits": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": [
        "-y",
        "addressintel-mcp"
      ],
      "env": {
        "ADDRESSINTEL_API_KEY": "your-value"
      }
    }
  }
}

Your browser asks to open the app, then the app shows the settings and asks you to confirm. Key values are left empty for you to fill in.

Open in VS Code

Or copy the settings yourself

Paste into .vscode/mcp.json in your project

{
  "servers": {
    "permits": {
      "type": "stdio",
      "command": "npx",
      "args": [
        "-y",
        "addressintel-mcp"
      ],
      "env": {
        "ADDRESSINTEL_API_KEY": "your-value"
      }
    }
  }
}

Your browser asks to open the app, then the app shows the settings and asks you to confirm. Key values are left empty for you to fill in.

This one runs on your computer, and ChatGPT can only connect to servers on the internet. Pick another app.

Your choice stays on this device in a cookie; no account needed.

Values you fill in

  • ADDRESSINTEL_API_KEY secret env
    AddressIntel API key. Optional: without one the server uses the public demo tier (10 requests/minute, 5 rows per call). Free keys at https://addressintel.co/developers

These settings are generated from the maker’s registry entry. If the README says otherwise, follow the README.

Common questions

Is Permits safe?

It passed 1 of 1 applicable basic checks. We have not read the code. Before adding a key or token, see what access the server asks for and use a key with only the permissions you need.

What keys or codes does it need?

You need to fill in: ADDRESSINTEL_API_KEY

Does it run on my computer or in the cloud?

It runs on your computer. Your AI app starts it when needed, and data does not pass through the maker’s servers (unless it calls an online service itself).

Is it still maintained?

The GitHub repo last changed –, and the latest version (1.1.2) reached the registry 3 months ago.

Which apps can use it?

Apps that support MCP, such as Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor and VS Code. You also need Node.js on your computer.

What can I use instead?

AddressIntel MCP server

A read-only Model Context Protocol server that puts SF Peninsula building-permit and parcel-buildability data inside Claude, ChatGPT, or any other MCP-capable agent.

It is a thin client over the public AddressIntel API, so it inherits that API's auth, rate limits and tier ceilings. Every tool is a GET. Nothing here can write.

Tools

ToolWhat it answers
search_permitsWhat construction has actually been permitted at an address or in a city? Filters on city, keyword (address, project type, scope description, contractor, architect, permit number) and minimum valuation.
list_sb9_inventoryWhich active listings can be split or duplexed under SB 9, and what blocks the ones that can't?
list_adu_leadsWhich parcels have room for an ADU, and how many units / how much square footage?
list_redevelopment_leadsWhich parcels are underbuilt against their allowable envelope (scrape-and-rebuild or expansion)?
list_market_signalsWhich listings score highest for teardown or flip potential?
get_property_intelligenceFull scores and comparable sales for one property id.

The permit and parcel tools are the differentiated half: permit-level detail and parcel-level buildability for the Peninsula, rather than a nationwide owner list.

Install

No install step: npx fetches it on demand.

Claude Code
claude mcp add addressintel \

-e ADDRESSINTEL_API_KEY=your_key \ -- npx -y addressintel-mcp

Claude Desktop

Add to claude_desktop_config.json:

{

"mcpServers": { "addressintel": { "command": "npx", "args": ["-y", "addressintel-mcp"], "env": { "ADDRESSINTEL_API_KEY": "your_key" } } } }

From source

For working on the server itself:

git clone https://github.com/RantumBits/addressintel-mcp.git

cd addressintel-mcp npm install npm run build # emits dist/index.js

Then point the client at node /absolute/path/to/addressintel-mcp/dist/index.js instead of the npx command above.

Restart the client, then ask it something like *"what demolition permits were issued in Menlo Park this year?"* or *"which Palo Alto listings are SB 9 eligible?"*

Configuration

VariableDefaultNotes
ADDRESSINTEL_API_KEYdemoWithout a key the server uses the public demo tier: 10 requests/minute, 5 rows per call. Grab a free key at https://addressintel.co/developers for 30/min and 25 rows; the key is emailed to the address you enter.
ADDRESSINTEL_API_BASEhttps://addressintel.co/apiPoint at a local dev server (http://localhost:3000/api) when working on the API.

Development

npm run dev # run from source over stdio

node test_mcp.mjs # smoke test: connect, list tools, call one

Tools are declared in one table in src/index.ts. Each entry carries its zod schema and its advertised JSON Schema side by side, so adding a tool means adding one entry, and the two shapes cannot drift apart.
