Overview

Description from the maker (original English)

Stop re-explaining yourself to Agents. Give it the right context, right when needed.

PopNx MCP’s three pillars

These three are never merged into one score: opinions, measurements and popularity are different things.

What you can do with it

We have not written a plain-language summary for this one yet. Below are the facts we read from the registry.

Install

Pick the AI app you use, then copy the settings.

Before you install

  • Basic checks: 1 of 1 passed
  • Runs on the maker’s server: what you ask it goes through their server.
  • The registry lists no key to fill in.

You need

Which app do you use?

Pick your app above. We remember it, so next time the button says “Install in …”.

Works in Claude on the web, desktop and mobile:

  1. Open Settings → Connectors
  2. Press Add custom connector
  3. Paste the address below and press Add
  4. If it asks you to sign in, sign in with the maker
SettingsConnectors1+ Add2https://…3
https://context-book-mcp-production.up.railway.app

Run this in your terminal

claude mcp add --transport http context-book https://context-book-mcp-production.up.railway.app

Open in Cursor

Or copy the settings yourself

Paste into .cursor/mcp.json in your project, or ~/.cursor/mcp.json

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "context-book": {
      "url": "https://context-book-mcp-production.up.railway.app"
    }
  }
}

Your browser asks to open the app, then the app shows the settings and asks you to confirm. Key values are left empty for you to fill in.

Open in VS Code

Or copy the settings yourself

Paste into .vscode/mcp.json in your project

{
  "servers": {
    "context-book": {
      "type": "http",
      "url": "https://context-book-mcp-production.up.railway.app"
    }
  }
}

Your browser asks to open the app, then the app shows the settings and asks you to confirm. Key values are left empty for you to fill in.

ChatGPT connects only to servers on the internet:

  1. Open ChatGPT on the web → Settings → Connectors (Apps)
  2. Press Create or Add (some plans need Developer mode under Advanced first)
  3. Paste the address below, give it a name and save
  4. If it asks you to sign in, sign in with the maker
SettingsConnectors1+ Create2https://…3
https://context-book-mcp-production.up.railway.app

Menu names can differ slightly by plan and over time.

Your choice stays on this device in a cookie; no account needed.

These settings are generated from the maker’s registry entry. If the README says otherwise, follow the README.

Common questions

Is Context Book safe?

It passed 1 of 1 applicable basic checks. We have not read the code. Before adding a key or token, see what access the server asks for and use a key with only the permissions you need.

What keys or codes does it need?

The registry does not list a required key, though some servers ask you to sign in on first use.

Does it run on my computer or in the cloud?

It runs in the maker’s cloud. Connect over the internet with nothing to install, but what you send passes through the maker’s servers.

Is it still maintained?

The GitHub repo last changed –, and the latest version (1.0.2) reached the registry 6 months ago.

Which apps can use it?

Apps that support MCP, such as Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor and VS Code. It connects by URL, so apps that accept remote MCP servers work too, such as ChatGPT in developer mode.

What can I use instead?

Stop re-explaining yourself to Agents. Give it the right context, right when needed.

LLMs are stateless — each conversation starts from scratch. ContextBook gives your AI tools a persistent, searchable knowledge library to draw the right context when they need it. No bloatware, no pre-loaded junk. Just the right information, at the right time.

Two Go binaries share a PostgreSQL database:

  • API server (cmd/api) — the control plane: user login, OAuth 2.0, dashboard, book/page CRUD
  • MCP server (cmd/mcp) — the data plane: 8 MCP tools for AI agents, protected by Bearer tokens

MCP Tools

All tools require a valid Bearer token and are scoped to the authenticated user.

ToolDescription
book_create_or_updateCreate a Book or update its metadata
book_listPaginated list of Book metadata
book_getRetrieve all pages of a Book
page_insertPush an atomic page into a Book; embeds immediately
page_updateReplace a page's content; re-embeds
page_deleteRemove a page (indices not re-numbered)
page_searchSemantic search across all Books
readmeReturns the usage guide (call once per session)

Quick Start

Prerequisites
1. Set up the database
CREATE DATABASE contextbook_db;

\c contextbook_db CREATE EXTENSION IF NOT EXISTS vector; CREATE EXTENSION IF NOT EXISTS pg_trgm;

Migrations run automatically on API server startup.

2. Configure environment
cp .env.example backend/.env

Edit backend/.env — set DATABASE_URL, API_KEY_SALT, VOYAGE_API_KEY

3. Run the backend
cd backend

go run ./cmd/api/main.go # API + dashboard (:8080) go run ./cmd/mcp/main.go # MCP server (:8081)

4. Run the frontend (optional)
cd frontend

npm install && npm run dev # Vite dev server on :5173

5. Connect an AI client

For Cursor (.cursor/mcp.json):

{

"mcpServers": { "contextbook": { "url": "http://localhost:8081/mcp" } } }

For any MCP-compatible client, point the server URL to http://localhost:8081/mcp.
