Overview

Description from the maker (original English)

EnergyPlus weather files (EPW, DDY, STAT) and design conditions for any site, OpenStudio-MCP ready.

PopNx MCP’s three pillars

These three are never merged into one score: opinions, measurements and popularity are different things.

What you can do with it

We have not written a plain-language summary for this one yet. Below are the facts we read from the registry.

  • Connection: Computer or cloud
  • Transport: stdio, Streamable HTTP
  • Category: Travel, maps & weather
  • You need to fill in: EPWTOOLS_API_KEY

Install

Pick the AI app you use, then copy the settings.

Before you install

Values marked secret are keys to your account. Never share them or paste them into a chat.

You need

  • Runs in the cloudNothing to install; it connects over the internet
  • PyPIPython’s uv installed (for the uvx command)

Which app do you use?

Pick your app above. We remember it, so next time the button says “Install in …”.

What it can do

Tool names and descriptions exactly as the server reported them on Nov 6, 2026. The maker wrote them, not us; we show them as plain text.

  • get_nearest_stations

Nearest weather stations to a point (name, WMO id, distance, years of record). Free, no key.

  • get_design_conditions

Heating and cooling design conditions for any site, free, in one of two modes that are never mixed. mode="ashrae_method": the ASHRAE Handbook Ch. 14 method replicated at the nearest ASHRAE station for the chosen edition (2025, 2021, 2017, 2013, 2009, 2005); validated about 0.25 d

  • list_cmip6_models

    The models available for future-climate morphing: `models` are global CMIP6 models (NASA NEX-GDDP, 25 km); `regional` are EURO-CORDEX pairs (12.5 km, Europe only, 27-72 N / 25 W-45 E) usable as `model` ids. Free.

  • analyze_epw

Summary statistics of any public EPW by URL (OneBuilding, EnergyPlus, a shared file): location header, dry-bulb mean/min/max, annual global horizontal irradiation, data range warnings. Free, no key. 10 MB max.

  • generate_epw

Start an actual-year (AMY) EPW + DDY + STAT for any point, 1990 to last year. 1 credit; +2 with urban_street_level (53 US cities: hourly street-level air temperature from citizen stations). Returns a job_id; poll with get_job_result.

  • generate_tmy

Start a typical meteorological year from a chosen period (at least 5 years; 10-20 is usual). 1 credit.

  • generate_future_climate

    Start a CMIP6-morphed future EPW (Belcher 2005). scenario: ssp126, ssp245, ssp370, ssp585; horizon: any decade 2030-2100; model from list_cmip6_models. 3 credits.

  • generate_forecast

Start a forecast EPW for the next 1-15 days (operational sims, MPC, demand response). Up to 7 days free.

  • get_job_result

Status of a job started by a generate_* tool; when complete, the download URLs (they carry the key).

Common questions

Is EPW.tools safe?

It passed 3 of 3 applicable basic checks. We have not read the code. Before adding a key or token, see what access the server asks for and use a key with only the permissions you need.

What keys or codes does it need?

You need to fill in: EPWTOOLS_API_KEY

Does it run on my computer or in the cloud?

Either way works: install it on your computer or connect to the cloud version.

Is it still maintained?

The GitHub repo last changed –, and the latest version (0.5.3) reached the registry 4 days ago.

Which apps can use it?

Apps that support MCP, such as Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor and VS Code. It connects by URL, so apps that accept remote MCP servers work too, such as ChatGPT in developer mode.

What can I use instead?

epwtools

Python client, command-line tool and MCP server for [EPW.tools](https://epw.tools): EnergyPlus weather files (EPW, with DDY design days and STAT summaries) for any location on Earth.

  • Actual years from 1990 to now, for any coordinates, with or without a nearby weather station
  • Typical years (TMY), extreme and heatwave years
  • Future climate for 2030 to 2100 under SSP scenarios
