Overview

Description from the maker (original English)

Google Slides via gogcli for Claude — deck and slide authoring

PopNx MCP’s three pillars

These three are never merged into one score: opinions, measurements and popularity are different things.

What you can do with it

We have not written a plain-language summary for this one yet. Below are the facts we read from the registry.

  • Connection: Runs on your computer
  • Transport: stdio
  • Category: Docs, sheets & office work

Install

Pick the AI app you use, then copy the settings.

Before you install

  • Basic checks: 1 of 1 passed
  • Runs on your computer with your user’s permissions (files, network, apps).
  • You fill in yourself: GOG_ACCOUNT, GOG_PATH, DISPLAY_TZ, GOG_READONLY, GOG_TIMEZONE

You need

  • npmNode.js installed (for the npx command)

Which app do you use?

Pick your app above. We remember it, so next time the button says “Install in …”.

Open Claude Desktop → Settings → Developer → Edit Config, and paste this into claude_desktop_config.json

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "gogcli-slides": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": [
        "-y",
        "gogcli-mcp-slides"
      ],
      "env": {
        "GOG_ACCOUNT": "your-value",
        "GOG_PATH": "your-value",
        "DISPLAY_TZ": "your-value",
        "GOG_READONLY": "your-value",
        "GOG_TIMEZONE": "your-value"
      }
    }
  }
}

Run this in your terminal

claude mcp add gogcli-slides --env GOG_ACCOUNT=your-value --env GOG_PATH=your-value --env DISPLAY_TZ=your-value --env GOG_READONLY=your-value --env GOG_TIMEZONE=your-value -- npx -y gogcli-mcp-slides

Fill in the empty values before running it.

Open in Cursor

Or copy the settings yourself

Paste into .cursor/mcp.json in your project, or ~/.cursor/mcp.json

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "gogcli-slides": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": [
        "-y",
        "gogcli-mcp-slides"
      ],
      "env": {
        "GOG_ACCOUNT": "your-value",
        "GOG_PATH": "your-value",
        "DISPLAY_TZ": "your-value",
        "GOG_READONLY": "your-value",
        "GOG_TIMEZONE": "your-value"
      }
    }
  }
}

Your browser asks to open the app, then the app shows the settings and asks you to confirm. Key values are left empty for you to fill in.

Open in VS Code

Or copy the settings yourself

Paste into .vscode/mcp.json in your project

{
  "servers": {
    "gogcli-slides": {
      "type": "stdio",
      "command": "npx",
      "args": [
        "-y",
        "gogcli-mcp-slides"
      ],
      "env": {
        "GOG_ACCOUNT": "your-value",
        "GOG_PATH": "your-value",
        "DISPLAY_TZ": "your-value",
        "GOG_READONLY": "your-value",
        "GOG_TIMEZONE": "your-value"
      }
    }
  }
}

Your browser asks to open the app, then the app shows the settings and asks you to confirm. Key values are left empty for you to fill in.

This one runs on your computer, and ChatGPT can only connect to servers on the internet. Pick another app.

Your choice stays on this device in a cookie; no account needed.

Values you fill in

  • GOG_ACCOUNT env
    Email address of the Google account to use (matches gogcli auth)
  • GOG_PATH env
    Override path to the gogcli binary (auto-discovered otherwise)
  • DISPLAY_TZ env
    zone for *Display fields and for interpreting naive gog values; defaults to America/New_York
  • GOG_READONLY env
    block all mutating gog API requests (injects gog's --readonly); set to 0/false/no/off (or unset) to allow writes
  • GOG_TIMEZONE env
    zone gog formats naive dates in; unset, runner.ts hands gog DISPLAY_TZ so the two cannot diverge

Common questions

Is Gogcli MCP Slides safe?

It passed 1 of 1 applicable basic checks. We have not read the code. Before adding a key or token, see what access the server asks for and use a key with only the permissions you need.

What keys or codes does it need?

The registry does not list a required key, though some servers ask you to sign in on first use.

Does it run on my computer or in the cloud?

It runs on your computer. Your AI app starts it when needed, and data does not pass through the maker’s servers (unless it calls an online service itself).

Is it still maintained?

The GitHub repo last changed –, and the latest version (4.10.0) reached the registry yesterday.

Which apps can use it?

Apps that support MCP, such as Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor and VS Code. You also need Node.js on your computer.

What can I use instead?

Requirements

  • gogcli installed and authenticated
  • Node.js 22+
brew install gogcli

Claude Code
claude mcp add gogcli-slides -- gogcli-mcp-slides

Slides Tools

The package registers 56 tools: 40 Slides authoring tools, 7 base Slides tools, 8 auth tools, and gog_upload_slots. The table below covers the most-used; manifest.json lists every one.

ToolDescription
gog_slides_exportExport a presentation to a local file (pdf or pptx)
gog_slides_infoGet metadata for a presentation
gog_slides_createCreate a new presentation, optionally from a template
gog_slides_create_from_markdownCreate a new presentation from markdown content
gog_slides_create_from_templateCreate from a template with placeholder replacements
gog_slides_copyCopy a presentation
gog_slides_add_slideAdd a new slide from a local image
gog_slides_list_slidesList slides in a presentation
gog_slides_delete_slideDelete a slide
gog_slides_skip_slideSkip a slide when presenting (keeps it in the deck)
gog_slides_unskip_slideInclude a previously skipped slide again
gog_slides_read_slideRead the content of a slide
gog_slides_update_notesUpdate speaker notes on a slide
gog_slides_replace_slideReplace the image content of an existing slide

Files on a hosted deployment

When this server is hosted (remote), it cannot read paths on your machine. Call gog_upload_slots with files: [{filename}], PUT each file to its uploadUrl with the slot's curl command, then pass the returned blobKeys to gog_slides_add_slide, gog_slides_insert_image and gog_slides_replace_slide (instead of image). Files up to 25 MiB; each is deleted from the upload store after the call succeeds and kept if it fails. On a local install, pass a path as before.
