Spec Driven Development
MCP Server that facilitates spec-driven development workflows, not just Vibe Coding.
Description from the maker (original English)
Turn images into pixel art, extract and remap palettes, and upscale sprites without blur.
These three are never merged into one score: opinions, measurements and popularity are different things.
We have not written a plain-language summary for this one yet. Below are the facts we read from the registry.

Tool names and descriptions exactly as the server reported them on Nov 6, 2026. The maker wrote them, not us; we show them as plain text.
pixelate_imageTurn a photo or illustration into pixel art: shrink it to a pixel grid and reduce it to a few colours (or a named palette). Returns the PNG.
extract_palettePull the main colours out of an image (median cut). Returns hex codes plus a GIMP/Aseprite .gpl palette.
remap_paletteRecolour an existing pixel art image so every pixel uses a colour from the given palette (e.g. PICO-8 or Game Boy). Size is kept. Returns the PNG.
upscale_pixel_artScale pixel art up by a whole number with nearest neighbour, so pixels stay sharp. Output is capped at 1024 px.
list_palettesList the built-in pixel art palettes and their colours.
We check information anyone can see; we have not read the code. Checks that do not apply are left out of the count. · Checked Nov 7, 2026

It passed 3 of 3 applicable basic checks. We have not read the code. Before adding a key or token, see what access the server asks for and use a key with only the permissions you need.
The registry does not list a required key, though some servers ask you to sign in on first use.
Either way works: install it on your computer or connect to the cloud version.

Apps that support MCP, such as Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor and VS Code. It connects by URL, so apps that accept remote MCP servers work too, such as ChatGPT in developer mode.

An MCP server that gives AI assistants (Claude, Cursor, Windsurf, VS Code…) real pixel art tools: turn any image into pixel art, extract a palette, recolour sprites to PICO-8 or Game Boy colours, and upscale without blur.
Runs locally, works on PNG and JPEG files or image URLs, no API keys, no native dependencies.
| Tool | What it does |
|---|---|
pixelate_image | Image → pixel art. Shrinks to a pixel grid (e.g. 64 px wide), reduces to N colours with median cut or maps to a named palette, saves a PNG (optionally upscaled for preview). |
extract_palette | Pulls the main colours out of an image and returns hex codes plus a GIMP / Aseprite .gpl palette. |
remap_palette | Recolours existing pixel art so every pixel uses a palette colour — PICO-8, Sweetie 16, ENDESGA 32, Game Boy, 1-bit or your own hex list. |
upscale_pixel_art | Nearest-neighbour upscale by a whole number, so pixels stay sharp. |
list_palettes | Lists the built-in palettes. |
Add it to your MCP client config. For Claude Desktop (claude_desktop_config.json), Cursor (.cursor/mcp.json) and most other clients:
{
"mcpServers": { "pixel-art": { "command": "npx", "args": ["-y", "simplepixelart-mcp"] } } }
Claude Code:
claude mcp add pixel-art -- npx -y simplepixelart-mcp
Requires Node.js 18 or newer.
A remote endpoint runs at https://mcp.simplepixelart.com/mcp (Streamable HTTP, no auth). Images go in as a public URL or base64 and come back as PNG. Limits: 4 MB / 2048x2048 input, 1024 px output, 20 requests a minute.
claude mcp add --transport http pixel-art https://mcp.simplepixelart.com/mcp
{
"mcpServers": { "pixel-art": { "url": "https://mcp.simplepixelart.com/mcp" } } }
To run the HTTP server yourself: npm run start:http (listens on 127.0.0.1:4020, set PORT / HOST to change).
Ask your assistant things like:
~/photos/cat.jpg into 48 px wide pixel art with the PICO-8 palette, and save an 8x preview."assets/ to the Game Boy palette."hero.png 10x for the store page."import { loadImage, pixelate, saveImage } from 'simplepixelart-mcp/src/pixel.js'
const img = await loadImage('photo.jpg') const { display, palette } = pixelate(img, { width: 64, palette: 'sweetie-16', scale: 8 }) await saveImage(display, 'photo-pixel.png')
The tools get you a clean starting grid; the fun part is fixing it by hand. Open the PNG in SimplePixelArt, a free online pixel art editor with layers, animation and tileset tools, or try its in-browser pixel art converter for live adjustments. No account needed.
npm install
npm test # starts the server over stdio and calls every tool
