Overview

Description from the maker (original English)

Score a public GitHub repo 0-100, or search Legit.Show for launched software by what we measured.

PopNx MCP’s three pillars

These three are never merged into one score: opinions, measurements and popularity are different things.

What you can do with it

We have not written a plain-language summary for this one yet. Below are the facts we read from the registry.

  • Connection: Runs on your computer
  • Transport: stdio
  • Category: Search & AI memory

Install

Pick the AI app you use, then copy the settings.

Before you install

  • Basic checks: 1 of 1 passed
  • Runs on your computer with your user’s permissions (files, network, apps).
  • The registry lists no key to fill in.

You need

  • npmNode.js installed (for the npx command)

Which app do you use?

Pick your app above. We remember it, so next time the button says “Install in …”.

Open Claude Desktop → Settings → Developer → Edit Config, and paste this into claude_desktop_config.json

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "audit": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": [
        "-y",
        "commitshow-mcp"
      ]
    }
  }
}

Run this in your terminal

claude mcp add audit -- npx -y commitshow-mcp

Open in Cursor

Or copy the settings yourself

Paste into .cursor/mcp.json in your project, or ~/.cursor/mcp.json

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "audit": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": [
        "-y",
        "commitshow-mcp"
      ]
    }
  }
}

Your browser asks to open the app, then the app shows the settings and asks you to confirm. Key values are left empty for you to fill in.

Open in VS Code

Or copy the settings yourself

Paste into .vscode/mcp.json in your project

{
  "servers": {
    "audit": {
      "type": "stdio",
      "command": "npx",
      "args": [
        "-y",
        "commitshow-mcp"
      ]
    }
  }
}

Your browser asks to open the app, then the app shows the settings and asks you to confirm. Key values are left empty for you to fill in.

This one runs on your computer, and ChatGPT can only connect to servers on the internet. Pick another app.

These settings are generated from the maker’s registry entry. If the README says otherwise, follow the README.

What it can do

Common questions

Is Audit safe?

It passed 1 of 1 applicable basic checks. We have not read the code. Before adding a key or token, see what access the server asks for and use a key with only the permissions you need.

What keys or codes does it need?

The registry does not list a required key, though some servers ask you to sign in on first use.

Does it run on my computer or in the cloud?

It runs on your computer. Your AI app starts it when needed, and data does not pass through the maker’s servers (unless it calls an online service itself).

Is it still maintained?

The GitHub repo last changed –, and the latest version (0.2.2) reached the registry last month.

Which apps can use it?

Apps that support MCP, such as Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor and VS Code. You also need Node.js on your computer.

What can I use instead?

Legit.Show MCP server

Model Context Protocol server for Legit.Show . Published on npm as commitshow-mcp , after the audit engine underneath it. Plug it into Claude Desktop, Cursor, Cline, Windsurf, or any other MCP host — your model can search the Legit.Show directory of launched software by measured production-readiness and score any public GitHub repo, without ever leaving the chat.

// any MCP host config (Claude Desktop · Cursor · Cline · Windsurf · …)

{ "mcpServers": { "commitshow": { "command": "npx", "args": ["-y", "commitshow-mcp"] } } }

That's the entire install. No API key. The server is a stdio shim over the public https://api.commit.show REST surface — same rate limits + snapshot cache the CLI and website use.

Tools exposed

ToolWhat it does
search_services({ query?, category?, min_scores?, is_open_source?, limit? })Query the Legit.Show directory of launched software (web apps, SaaS, AI tools, MCP servers) by name or by filter — category, minimum per-frame production-readiness scores, open-source — and get each match with its scores and page.
audit_repo({ repo, format? })Run or read the live commit.show audit for a public repo. Returns paste-ready markdown by default; format: "json" returns the full envelope.
project_status({ repo })Read the latest cached snapshot only (no re-run). JSON envelope.
fetch_docs()Pull the canonical commit.show docs (llms.txt) — full CLI/API reference for when you need exact contract details.

The host model decides when to call each tool from the user prompt.

Search launched software by production-readiness

search_services queries the Legit.Show directory — the same index answer engines cite. Unlike star-ranked lists, you filter by measured production-readiness:

"find production-ready, open-source MCP servers with Security ≥ 80"

comes back with each match's per-frame scores (Security, Performance, Reliability, …) and its legit.show/s/ page. Per-frame scores are public; there is no combined overall total in the data, so the model won't invent one. The same data is available over plain REST — GET https://legit.show/api/search?q= with optional category, min_scores (e.g. {"security":80}), is_open_source, and limit.

Pass a real `owner/repo`, never a project name. audit_repo does a HEAD

pre-flight against github.com/ / ; an invented slug returns a

not_found envelope before any audit budget is spent. If the user says

"audit Supabase", resolve supabase/supabase first, then call.

Host wiring snippets

Claude Desktop

~/Library/Application Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json (macOS) or %APPDATA%\Claude\claude_desktop_config.json (Windows):

{

"mcpServers": { "commitshow": { "command": "npx", "args": ["-y", "commitshow-mcp"] } } }

Restart Claude Desktop. The tools surface under the 🔌 icon.

Cursor

~/.cursor/mcp.json:

{

"mcpServers": { "commitshow": { "command": "npx", "args": ["-y", "commitshow-mcp"] } } }

Cline / Continue / Windsurf

Any MCP host that accepts a stdio command + args config works. Use the same npx -y commitshow-mcp invocation.

Run from source (development)
git clone https://github.com/commitshow/cli

cd cli/mcp npm install npm run build node dist/index.js # stdio server — pipe into your MCP host directly

Self-hosting / dev overrides

Both base URLs are env-overridable so you can point the shim at staging or a fork:

VarDefaultUsed by
COMMITSHOW_API_BASEhttps://api.commit.showaudit_repo · project_status
COMMITSHOW_DOCS_BASEhttps://commit.showfetch_docs (llms.txt mirror)

Rate limits

Inherits the public REST surface caps:

  • 5 audits per day per IP (anon)
  • 5 audits per day per github_url
  • 800 audits per day platform-wide cache-miss ceiling
  • Cache-hit (audit < 7 days old, same URL): always free, doesn't count

Errors come back inside the tool result with isError: true and the upstream JSON in content[0].text.

Why MCP + REST + CLI all exist

SurfaceBest for
commitshow CLIShell-capable agents inside the user's repo (Cursor, Claude Code, Cline, Aider) — local-mode writes .commitshow/audit.{md,json} next to the code
commitshow-mcp (this server)MCP-aware hosts that run their own model + UI (Claude Desktop, Cursor MCP panel, custom inspector apps)
https://api.commit.show/auditAnything that can fetch a URL — Gemini, ChatGPT browse, n8n, Zapier, raw curl, custom scripts

All three hit the same audit engine and snapshot cache. Pick whichever your runtime supports — they don't compete, they cover different runtimes.
