Overview

Description from the maker (original English)

MCP server for codewiki.google: search repos, fetch wiki docs, ask questions

PopNx MCP’s three pillars

These three are never merged into one score: opinions, measurements and popularity are different things.

What you can do with it

We have not written a plain-language summary for this one yet. Below are the facts we read from the registry.

  • Connection: Runs on your computer
  • Transport: stdio
  • Category: Developer tools

Install

Pick the AI app you use, then copy the settings.

Before you install

  • Basic checks: 1 of 1 passed
  • Runs on your computer with your user’s permissions (files, network, apps).
  • The registry lists no key to fill in.

You need

  • npmNode.js installed (for the npx command)

Which app do you use?

Pick your app above. We remember it, so next time the button says “Install in …”.

Open Claude Desktop → Settings → Developer → Edit Config, and paste this into claude_desktop_config.json

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "codewiki": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": [
        "-y",
        "codewiki-mcp"
      ]
    }
  }
}

Run this in your terminal

claude mcp add codewiki -- npx -y codewiki-mcp

Open in Cursor

Or copy the settings yourself

Paste into .cursor/mcp.json in your project, or ~/.cursor/mcp.json

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "codewiki": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": [
        "-y",
        "codewiki-mcp"
      ]
    }
  }
}

Your browser asks to open the app, then the app shows the settings and asks you to confirm. Key values are left empty for you to fill in.

Open in VS Code

Or copy the settings yourself

Paste into .vscode/mcp.json in your project

{
  "servers": {
    "codewiki": {
      "type": "stdio",
      "command": "npx",
      "args": [
        "-y",
        "codewiki-mcp"
      ]
    }
  }
}

Your browser asks to open the app, then the app shows the settings and asks you to confirm. Key values are left empty for you to fill in.

This one runs on your computer, and ChatGPT can only connect to servers on the internet. Pick another app.

Common questions

Is CodeWiki MCP — AI-generated docs for GitHub repos safe?

It passed 1 of 1 applicable basic checks. We have not read the code. Before adding a key or token, see what access the server asks for and use a key with only the permissions you need.

What keys or codes does it need?

The registry does not list a required key, though some servers ask you to sign in on first use.

Does it run on my computer or in the cloud?

It runs on your computer. Your AI app starts it when needed, and data does not pass through the maker’s servers (unless it calls an online service itself).

Is it still maintained?

The GitHub repo last changed –, and the latest version (1.1.1) reached the registry 8 months ago.

Which apps can use it?

Apps that support MCP, such as Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor and VS Code. You also need Node.js on your computer.

What can I use instead?

Error codes: VALIDATION, RPC_FAIL, TIMEOUT, NLP_RESOLVE_FAIL

⚙️ How It Works

Data Flow
AI Assistant → MCP protocol → codewiki-mcp → HTTPS → codewiki.google

↓ AI Assistant ← MCP protocol ← codewiki-mcp ← JSON ← Google RPC API

Google Batchexecute RPC

codewiki.google uses Google's internal batchexecute RPC format (not REST, not GraphQL). The client:

  1. Builds a POST request with f.req=... body
  2. Sends it to /_/BoqAngularSdlcAgentsUi/data/batchexecute
  3. Receives a response with XSSI prefix )]}'\n
  4. Parses wrb.fr frames and extracts the typed payload

Each tool maps to an RPC ID:

ToolRPC ID
🔍 SearchvyWDAf
📄 FetchVSX6ub
💬 AskEgIxfe
🧠 NLP Repo Resolution

Users can type natural language instead of owner/repo:

"the fastify web framework"

→ wink-nlp extracts keyword "fastify" (POS tag: NOUN/PROPN) → GitHub Search API: GET /search/repositories?q=fastify&sort=stars → top result: "fastify/fastify" → normalizeRepoInput("fastify/fastify") → URL for codewiki

🔄 Retry with Exponential Backoff
AttemptDelay
0immediate
1250ms
2500ms
31000ms

4xx errors (client errors) are never retried.

🖥️ CLI

codewiki-mcp [options]

Options: --http Streamable HTTP transport --sse SSE transport --port Port for HTTP/SSE (default: 3000) --endpoint URL endpoint (default: /mcp) --help, -h Show help

❓ Troubleshooting

Permission Denied

chmod +x ./node_modules/.bin/codewiki-mcp

Connection Refused (HTTP/SSE)

# Check if port is in use

lsof -i :3000

Timeout Errors

For large repositories, increase the timeout:

CODEWIKI_REQUEST_TIMEOUT=60000 node dist/cli.js

NLP Resolution Fails

If natural-language input doesn't resolve, use explicit format:

# Instead of "the fastify framework"

fastify/fastify

or

https://github.com/fastify/fastify

Set GITHUB_TOKEN to avoid GitHub API rate limits for unauthenticated requests.

🧑💻 Development

npm run dev # stdio with tsx

npm run dev:http # HTTP with tsx npm run dev:sse # SSE with tsx npm run typecheck # type check npm run test # run tests npm run test:watch # tests in watch mode npm run build # compile to dist/
