Overview

Description from the maker (original English)

Encrypted credential vault for AI agents — auto OAuth refresh, rate limiting, audit logging.

PopNx MCP’s three pillars

These three are never merged into one score: opinions, measurements and popularity are different things.

What you can do with it

We have not written a plain-language summary for this one yet. Below are the facts we read from the registry.

  • Connection: Runs on your computer
  • Transport: stdio
  • Category: Other

Install

Pick the AI app you use, then copy the settings.

Before you install

  • Basic checks: 1 of 1 passed
  • Runs on your computer with your user’s permissions (files, network, apps).
  • The registry lists no key to fill in.

You need

  • npmNode.js installed (for the npx command)

Which app do you use?

Pick your app above. We remember it, so next time the button says “Install in …”.

Open Claude Desktop → Settings → Developer → Edit Config, and paste this into claude_desktop_config.json

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "clavis": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": [
        "-y",
        "@clavisagent/mcp-server"
      ]
    }
  }
}

Run this in your terminal

claude mcp add clavis -- npx -y @clavisagent/mcp-server

Open in Cursor

Or copy the settings yourself

Paste into .cursor/mcp.json in your project, or ~/.cursor/mcp.json

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "clavis": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": [
        "-y",
        "@clavisagent/mcp-server"
      ]
    }
  }
}

Your browser asks to open the app, then the app shows the settings and asks you to confirm. Key values are left empty for you to fill in.

Open in VS Code

Or copy the settings yourself

Paste into .vscode/mcp.json in your project

{
  "servers": {
    "clavis": {
      "type": "stdio",
      "command": "npx",
      "args": [
        "-y",
        "@clavisagent/mcp-server"
      ]
    }
  }
}

Your browser asks to open the app, then the app shows the settings and asks you to confirm. Key values are left empty for you to fill in.

This one runs on your computer, and ChatGPT can only connect to servers on the internet. Pick another app.

Common questions

Is Clavis safe?

It passed 1 of 1 applicable basic checks. We have not read the code. Before adding a key or token, see what access the server asks for and use a key with only the permissions you need.

What keys or codes does it need?

The registry does not list a required key, though some servers ask you to sign in on first use.

Does it run on my computer or in the cloud?

It runs on your computer. Your AI app starts it when needed, and data does not pass through the maker’s servers (unless it calls an online service itself).

Is it still maintained?

The GitHub repo last changed –, and the latest version (0.1.3) reached the registry 3 months ago.

Which apps can use it?

Apps that support MCP, such as Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor and VS Code. You also need Node.js on your computer.

Clavis MCP Server

Secure credential management for Claude Desktop and MCP servers.

Features

  • 🔐 Encrypted credential storage (AES-128-CBC + HMAC-SHA256, via Fernet)
  • 🛡️ Server-side credential injection — the raw key never enters the conversation
  • 🔄 Automatic OAuth token refresh
  • 📡 Thin forwarding layer — rate limiting, audit logging, and usage tracking are all handled by the Clavis server

Installation

npx @clavisagent/mcp-server

Or install globally:

npm install -g @clavisagent/mcp-server

Usage with Claude Desktop

Add the following to your Claude Desktop configuration file (claude_desktop_config.json):

{

"mcpServers": { "clavis": { "command": "npx", "args": ["-y", "@clavisagent/mcp-server"], "env": { "CLAVIS_API_KEY": "eyJ..." } } } }

Usage with Claude Code

claude mcp add clavis -- npx -y @clavisagent/mcp-server

Configuration

VariableRequiredDefaultDescription
CLAVIS_API_KEYyes—Your Clavis JWT, from POST /v1/auth/login. Not the cla_… key shown at sign-up.
CLAVIS_API_URLnohttps://clavisagent.comBase URL of your Clavis instance. Set this for self-hosted deployments.

Available Tools

ToolDescription
call_serviceRecommended. Make an API call with server-side credential injection — the credential is injected into the upstream request server-side, so the raw key never enters the conversation.
get_credentialsLegacy. Returns the raw access token or API key for a named service. Prefer call_service.
list_servicesList all services with stored credentials
check_credential_statusCheck the status and expiry of credentials for a service
Security note

Prefer call_service over get_credentials. call_service keeps the secret server-side, so a prompt injection has no credential in context to exfiltrate. get_credentials places the raw key in the conversation and exists only for callers that must hold the token themselves.
