Overview

Description from the maker (original English)

Shared, persistent memory for AI agents: recall before acting, report outcomes to earn confidence.

PopNx MCP’s three pillars

These three are never merged into one score: opinions, measurements and popularity are different things.

What you can do with it

We have not written a plain-language summary for this one yet. Below are the facts we read from the registry.

  • Connection: Computer or cloud
  • Transport: stdio, Streamable HTTP
  • Category: Search & AI memory
  • You need to fill in: Authorization

Install

Pick the AI app you use, then copy the settings.

Before you install

  • Basic checks: 1 of 1 passed
  • Runs on the maker’s server: what you ask it goes through their server.
  • You fill in yourself: Authorization

Values marked secret are keys to your account. Never share them or paste them into a chat.

You need

  • Runs in the cloudNothing to install; it connects over the internet
  • npmNode.js installed (for the npx command)

Which app do you use?

Pick your app above. We remember it, so next time the button says “Install in …”.

This address needs a key in a request header, which the add-connector menu cannot set. Use Claude Code, Cursor or VS Code instead.

Or run it on your computer

Open Claude Desktop → Settings → Developer → Edit Config, and paste this into claude_desktop_config.json

{

    "memcell": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": [
        "-y",
        "memcell",
        "mcp"
      ]
    }
  }
}

Run this in your terminal

claude mcp add --transport http memcell https://memcell.ai/mcp --header 'Authorization: your-value'

Or run it on your computer

claude mcp add memcell -- npx -y memcell mcp

Fill in the empty values before running it.

Values you fill in

  • Authorization secret required HTTP header
    Bearer . Create one with `npx memcell connect` in a workspace, or from your workspace settings on https://memcell.ai

These settings are generated from the maker’s registry entry. If the README says otherwise, follow the README.

Common questions

Is MemCell safe?

It passed 1 of 1 applicable basic checks. We have not read the code. Before adding a key or token, see what access the server asks for and use a key with only the permissions you need.

What keys or codes does it need?

You need to fill in: Authorization

Does it run on my computer or in the cloud?

Either way works: install it on your computer or connect to the cloud version.

Is it still maintained?

The GitHub repo last changed –, and the latest version (2.2.1) reached the registry 2 days ago.

Which apps can use it?

Apps that support MCP, such as Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor and VS Code. It connects by URL, so apps that accept remote MCP servers work too, such as ChatGPT in developer mode.

What can I use instead?

MemCell MCP Server

The official Model Context Protocol (MCP) server & registry manifest for MemCell .

Living, persistent memory for AI agents: recall before acting, report outcomes so confidence is earned.

MemCell provides persistent, adaptive memory, working thread continuity, knowledge graph traversal, and grounded document RAG for AI agents across any client harness. This repository contains the official MCP registry manifest, Smithery configuration, and connection guides.

Quickstart

Option A: Local stdio (Recommended)

Run via npx (requires memcell CLI installed or accessible via npm):

npx -y memcell mcp
Option B: Remote Streamable HTTP

Connect directly to the hosted or self-hosted MemCell streamable HTTP endpoint:

  • Endpoint: https://memcell.ai/mcp
  • Header: Authorization: Bearer
Option C: Local Standalone Server (PGlite)

Run MemCell on your local machine with embedded PGlite vector storage (once cached or pointed at MEMCELL_SERVER_PATH, memcell start runs completely offline without network access):

# 1. Start local server in background

memcell start --daemon

2. Wire local MCP tools

memcell connect --url http://localhost:3000

Client Configurations

1. Claude Desktop

Add to claude_desktop_config.json:

{

"mcpServers": { "memcell": { "command": "npx", "args": ["-y", "memcell", "mcp"] } } }

2. Claude Code

Run:

claude mcp add memcell -- npx -y memcell mcp
3. Cursor

Add to .cursor/mcp.json (or ~/.cursor/mcp.json):

{

"mcpServers": { "memcell": { "command": "npx", "args": ["-y", "memcell", "mcp"] } } }

4. Antigravity

Add to ~/.gemini/antigravity/mcp_config.json:

{

"mcpServers": { "memcell": { "command": "npx", "args": ["-y", "memcell", "mcp"] } } }

5. Windsurf / Cline / OpenCode / Goose

Configure the MCP server command as:

  • Command: npx
  • Args: ["-y", "memcell", "mcp"]

How It Works

MemCell exposes seven workspace tools over MCP:

  1. `recall`: Pre-flight memory retrieval before taking action. Fetches relevant instructions, decisions, facts, preferences, active or resumed session threads, 1-hop knowledge graph relations, and grounded workspace document chunks.
  2. `remember`: Durable memory storage. Files atomic instructions, decisions, facts, and preferences—including detailed operational specifications (content), affected resources (resources), and enforcement moments (appliesAt)—directly into the active workspace or user profile.
  3. `report`: Outcome feedback calibration. Reports whether recalled memory worked, failed, or was avoided, calibrating confidence dynamically over time.
  4. `feedback`: Direct evaluation of a specific memory ID (worked or failed) with supporting outcome notes.
  5. `ingest_document`: Multi-format document ingestion. Indexes PDF, DOCX, CSV, TSV, HTML, JSON, and Markdown documents into grounded workspace chunks and optionally distills atomic memories.
  6. `search_documents`: Hybrid semantic and full-text retrieval across grounded workspace document chunks.
  7. `get_insights`: Live workspace telemetry, empirical Confidence Calibration Curve (ECE, Brier score, and bucketed observed success rates), and Governance Shield metrics (enforced guards, quarantined user-scope memories, and demoted items).

Custom Agent SDK Integrations

Building custom agents in TypeScript or Python? Official drop-in adapters ship inside @memcell/sdk (@memcell/sdk/vercel, @memcell/sdk/openai, @memcell/sdk/langgraph) and Python memcell.integrations (OpenAI Agents, LangGraph, PydanticAI, CrewAI) alongside MCP.
