Overview

Description from the maker (original English)

Google Analytics 4 MCP server with reporting, schema discovery, and admin visibility tools

PopNx MCP’s three pillars

These three are never merged into one score: opinions, measurements and popularity are different things.

What you can do with it

We have not written a plain-language summary for this one yet. Below are the facts we read from the registry.

  • Connection: Runs on your computer
  • Transport: stdio
  • Category: Marketing & social media
  • You need to fill in: GOOGLE_APPLICATION_CREDENTIALS

Install

Pick the AI app you use, then copy the settings.

Before you install

  • Basic checks: 1 of 1 passed
  • Runs on your computer with your user’s permissions (files, network, apps).
  • You fill in yourself: GOOGLE_APPLICATION_CREDENTIALS, GA4_PROPERTY_ID

You need

  • npmNode.js installed (for the npx command)

Which app do you use?

Pick your app above. We remember it, so next time the button says “Install in …”.

Open Claude Desktop → Settings → Developer → Edit Config, and paste this into claude_desktop_config.json

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "google-analytics": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": [
        "-y",
        "@mindstone/mcp-server-google-analytics"
      ],
      "env": {
        "GOOGLE_APPLICATION_CREDENTIALS": "your-value",
        "GA4_PROPERTY_ID": "your-value"
      }
    }
  }
}

Run this in your terminal

claude mcp add google-analytics --env GOOGLE_APPLICATION_CREDENTIALS=your-value --env GA4_PROPERTY_ID=your-value -- npx -y @mindstone/mcp-server-google-analytics

Fill in the empty values before running it.

Open in Cursor

Or copy the settings yourself

Paste into .cursor/mcp.json in your project, or ~/.cursor/mcp.json

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "google-analytics": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": [

      ],
      "env": {
        "GOOGLE_APPLICATION_CREDENTIALS": "your-value",
        "GA4_PROPERTY_ID": "your-value"
      }
    }
  }
}

Your browser asks to open the app, then the app shows the settings and asks you to confirm. Key values are left empty for you to fill in.

Open in VS Code

Or copy the settings yourself

Paste into .vscode/mcp.json in your project

{
  "servers": {
    "google-analytics": {
      "type": "stdio",
      "command": "npx",
      "args": [

        "GOOGLE_APPLICATION_CREDENTIALS": "your-value",
        "GA4_PROPERTY_ID": "your-value"
      }
    }
  }
}

Your browser asks to open the app, then the app shows the settings and asks you to confirm. Key values are left empty for you to fill in.

This one runs on your computer, and ChatGPT can only connect to servers on the internet. Pick another app.

Common questions

Is Google Analytics 4 safe?

It passed 1 of 1 applicable basic checks. We have not read the code. Before adding a key or token, see what access the server asks for and use a key with only the permissions you need.

What keys or codes does it need?

You need to fill in: GOOGLE_APPLICATION_CREDENTIALS

Does it run on my computer or in the cloud?

It runs on your computer. Your AI app starts it when needed, and data does not pass through the maker’s servers (unless it calls an online service itself).

Is it still maintained?

The GitHub repo last changed –, and the latest version (0.2.1) reached the registry 3 months ago.

Which apps can use it?

Apps that support MCP, such as Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor and VS Code. You also need Node.js on your computer.

What can I use instead?

@mindstone/mcp-server-google-analytics

Google Analytics 4 MCP server for Model Context Protocol hosts. Discover account/property structure, explore the live schema, run reports (with row-volume safety), create large asynchronous exports, and inspect admin configuration through a standardised MCP interface. With writes explicitly enabled, it can also set up and change property configuration: key events, custom dimensions and metrics, audiences, channel groups, data streams, enhanced measurement, event create and edit rules, calculated metrics, annotations, attribution, Measurement Protocol secrets, product links, and data retention.

Status

Quick Start

cd <path-to-repo>/connectors/google-analytics

npm install npm run build

npx -y @mindstone/mcp-server-google-analytics
Local
node dist/index.js

Authentication

This server uses Google Application Default Credentials (ADC). Mint ADC for a user account by installing the Google Cloud CLI and running:

gcloud auth application-default login \

--scopes=https://www.googleapis.com/auth/analytics.readonly \ --client-id-file=/absolute/path/to/oauth-client-secret.json

The --client-id-file is optional but strongly recommended — using your own OAuth client avoids the shared gcloud quota and gives you a stable verification footprint. You'll need a Google Cloud project with the Google Analytics Admin API and Google Analytics Data API enabled.

For service accounts, set GOOGLE_APPLICATION_CREDENTIALS to the absolute path of the service-account JSON. The service account must be granted access to the GA4 property in the GA4 Admin UI.

Enabling writes

Write tools are registered but refuse to run (WRITES_DISABLED) unless GA4_ALLOW_WRITES=true. To use them, mint ADC with the edit scope instead:

gcloud auth application-default login \

--scopes=https://www.googleapis.com/auth/analytics.edit \ --client-id-file=/absolute/path/to/oauth-client-secret.json

The account (or service account) also needs the Editor role on the GA4 property. Service-account credentials request the edit scope automatically when writes are enabled; user ADC keeps whatever scope it was minted with.

Configuration

Environment variables
  • GOOGLE_APPLICATION_CREDENTIALS — required. Absolute path to ADC or service-account JSON. Node does not expand ~ or %APPDATA% — provide a fully-resolved path.
  • GA4_PROPERTY_ID — optional. Default GA4 property ID (e.g. 123456789). Tools fall back to this when property_id is not passed in the call.
  • GA4_ALLOW_WRITES — optional. Set to true (or 1) to allow the write tools to change GA4 configuration. Any other value, or unset, keeps the connector read-only.

Notes

  • Read-only by default. Without GA4_ALLOW_WRITES=true, the only tools that create anything are ga_create_report_task and ga_create_audience_export, which materialise server-side snapshots and charge quota without modifying property configuration. The admin write tools refuse with WRITES_DISABLED before any request is sent. All of these are annotated readOnlyHint: false, destructiveHint: true, so hosts can gate them behind explicit user approval.
  • Alpha endpoints. Audiences, channel groups, BigQuery lin
