Overview

Description from the maker (original English)

Paid-per-call data for agents: trading calendars, futures, macro, LEI, VAT, risk events (x402)

PopNx MCP’s three pillars

These three are never merged into one score: opinions, measurements and popularity are different things.

What you can do with it

We have not written a plain-language summary for this one yet. Below are the facts we read from the registry.

  • Connection: Runs on your computer
  • Transport: stdio
  • Category: Accounting, finance & tax
  • You need to fill in: X402_PRIVATE_KEY

Install

Pick the AI app you use, then copy the settings.

Before you install

  • Basic checks: 1 of 1 passed
  • Runs on your computer with your user’s permissions (files, network, apps).
  • You fill in yourself: X402_KEY_FILE, X402_PRIVATE_KEY, MAX_USDC_PER_CALL, MAX_USDC_PER_SESSION

Values marked secret are keys to your account. Never share them or paste them into a chat.

You need

  • PyPIPython’s uv installed (for the uvx command)

Which app do you use?

Pick your app above. We remember it, so next time the button says “Install in …”.

Open Claude Desktop → Settings → Developer → Edit Config, and paste this into claude_desktop_config.json

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "market-data": {
      "command": "uvx",
      "args": [
        "x402-market-data-mcp"
      ],
      "env": {
        "X402_KEY_FILE": "your-value",
        "X402_PRIVATE_KEY": "your-value",
        "MAX_USDC_PER_CALL": "your-value",
        "MAX_USDC_PER_SESSION": "your-value"
      }
    }
  }
}

Run this in your terminal

claude mcp add market-data --env X402_KEY_FILE=your-value --env X402_PRIVATE_KEY=your-value --env MAX_USDC_PER_CALL=your-value --env MAX_USDC_PER_SESSION=your-value -- uvx x402-market-data-mcp

Fill in the empty values before running it.

Open in Cursor

Or copy the settings yourself

Paste into .cursor/mcp.json in your project, or ~/.cursor/mcp.json

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "market-data": {
      "command": "uvx",
      "args": [
        "x402-market-data-mcp"
      ],
      "env": {
        "X402_KEY_FILE": "your-value",
        "X402_PRIVATE_KEY": "your-value",
        "MAX_USDC_PER_CALL": "your-value",
        "MAX_USDC_PER_SESSION": "your-value"
      }
    }
  }
}

Your browser asks to open the app, then the app shows the settings and asks you to confirm. Key values are left empty for you to fill in.

Open in VS Code

Or copy the settings yourself

Paste into .vscode/mcp.json in your project

{
  "servers": {
    "market-data": {
      "type": "stdio",
      "command": "uvx",
      "args": [
        "x402-market-data-mcp"
      ],
      "env": {
        "X402_KEY_FILE": "your-value",
        "X402_PRIVATE_KEY": "your-value",
        "MAX_USDC_PER_CALL": "your-value",
        "MAX_USDC_PER_SESSION": "your-value"
      }
    }
  }
}

Your browser asks to open the app, then the app shows the settings and asks you to confirm. Key values are left empty for you to fill in.

This one runs on your computer, and ChatGPT can only connect to servers on the internet. Pick another app.

Your choice stays on this device in a cookie; no account needed.

Values you fill in

  • X402_KEY_FILE env
    Path to a file with the private key of a small, dedicated payment wallet (plain text or JSON with private_key). Without it only free tools work.
  • X402_PRIVATE_KEY secret env
    Alternative to X402_KEY_FILE: private key of a small, dedicated payment wallet.
  • MAX_USDC_PER_CALL env
    Highest price per call in USDC
  • MAX_USDC_PER_SESSION env
    Total budget per server start in USDC

These settings are generated from the maker’s registry entry. If the README says otherwise, follow the README.

Common questions

Is Market Data (x402) safe?

It passed 1 of 1 applicable basic checks. We have not read the code. Before adding a key or token, see what access the server asks for and use a key with only the permissions you need.

What keys or codes does it need?

You need to fill in: X402_PRIVATE_KEY

Does it run on my computer or in the cloud?

It runs on your computer. Your AI app starts it when needed, and data does not pass through the maker’s servers (unless it calls an online service itself).

Is it still maintained?

The GitHub repo last changed –, and the latest version (0.5.0) reached the registry 7 days ago.

Which apps can use it?

Apps that support MCP, such as Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor and VS Code. You also need Python (uv) on your computer.

What can I use instead?

Exchanges: NYSE, Nasdaq, LSE, Xetra, SIX, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Shanghai, ASX, CME equity futures. Futures: ES, MES, NQ, MNQ, YM, MYM, RTY, M2K, FDAX, FDXM, FESX, FSMI. Macro data comes from the U.S. Treasury (public domain), the ECB (euro reference rates; source: ECB statistics) the CFTC Commitments of Traders report, GLEIF (CC0), NWS, USGS, openFDA, U.S. Treasury Fiscal Data and NHTSA vPIC (public domain).

How payment works

Each paid tool calls an HTTP API protected by x402. The server pays automatically in USDC on Base, using a wallet key you provide, and only:

  • to the known wallets of these APIs (any other payee is refused),
  • in USDC on Base mainnet,
  • up to MAX_USDC_PER_CALL per call (default 0.05) and MAX_USDC_PER_SESSION per server start (default 1.00).

Without a key the free tools work and paid tools explain how to enable payment.

Use a separate, small wallet for X402_PRIVATE_KEY with only a few USDC on Base. Never use your main wallet.

No ETH is needed for gas; the x402 facilitator pays it.

Install (Claude Desktop, Cursor, any MCP client)

Requires uv. Add this to your MCP client config (Claude Desktop: Settings → Developer → Edit Config):

{

"mcpServers": { "market-data": { "command": "uvx", "args": ["--from", "x402-market-data-mcp", "market-data-mcp"], "env": { "X402_KEY_FILE": "C:\\path\\to\\wallet.json", "MAX_USDC_PER_SESSION": "1.00" } } } }

X402_KEY_FILE points to a file with the key (plain text or JSON with private_key); alternatively set X402_PRIVATE_KEY directly. Without uv: pip install x402-market-data-mcp and use "command": "python", "args": ["-m", "market_data_mcp"].

Then ask for example: *"Is the NYSE open on 27 November 2026 at 18:00 UTC?"*, *"What is the ES roll date in December?"* or *"Show the current US yield curve and the 2s10s spread."*

Direct HTTP use
