Overview

Description from the maker (original English)

Decision tracking with prediction validation and outcome gates for AI agents

PopNx MCP’s three pillars

These three are never merged into one score: opinions, measurements and popularity are different things.

What you can do with it

We have not written a plain-language summary for this one yet. Below are the facts we read from the registry.

  • Connection: Runs on your computer
  • Transport: stdio
  • Category: Other

Install

Pick the AI app you use, then copy the settings.

Before you install

  • Basic checks: 1 of 1 passed
  • Runs on your computer with your user’s permissions (files, network, apps).
  • You fill in yourself: MCP_DECISIONS_LOG_PATH

You need

  • PyPIPython’s uv installed (for the uvx command)

Which app do you use?

Pick your app above. We remember it, so next time the button says “Install in …”.

Open Claude Desktop → Settings → Developer → Edit Config, and paste this into claude_desktop_config.json

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "decisions": {
      "command": "uvx",
      "args": [
        "mcp-server-decisions"
      ],
      "env": {
        "MCP_DECISIONS_LOG_PATH": "your-value"
      }
    }
  }
}

Run this in your terminal

claude mcp add decisions --env MCP_DECISIONS_LOG_PATH=your-value -- uvx mcp-server-decisions

Fill in the empty values before running it.

Open in Cursor

Or copy the settings yourself

Paste into .cursor/mcp.json in your project, or ~/.cursor/mcp.json

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "decisions": {
      "command": "uvx",
      "args": [
        "mcp-server-decisions"
      ],
      "env": {
        "MCP_DECISIONS_LOG_PATH": "your-value"
      }
    }
  }
}

Your browser asks to open the app, then the app shows the settings and asks you to confirm. Key values are left empty for you to fill in.

Open in VS Code

Or copy the settings yourself

Paste into .vscode/mcp.json in your project

{
  "servers": {
    "decisions": {
      "type": "stdio",
      "command": "uvx",
      "args": [
        "mcp-server-decisions"
      ],
      "env": {
        "MCP_DECISIONS_LOG_PATH": "your-value"
      }
    }
  }
}

Your browser asks to open the app, then the app shows the settings and asks you to confirm. Key values are left empty for you to fill in.

This one runs on your computer, and ChatGPT can only connect to servers on the internet. Pick another app.

Your choice stays on this device in a cookie; no account needed.

Values you fill in

  • MCP_DECISIONS_LOG_PATH env
    Path to decisions log file (default: ~/.local/share/mcp-decisions/decisions_log.json)

These settings are generated from the maker’s registry entry. If the README says otherwise, follow the README.

What it can do

Common questions

Is MCP Server Decisions safe?

It passed 1 of 1 applicable basic checks. We have not read the code. Before adding a key or token, see what access the server asks for and use a key with only the permissions you need.

What keys or codes does it need?

The registry does not list a required key, though some servers ask you to sign in on first use.

Does it run on my computer or in the cloud?

It runs on your computer. Your AI app starts it when needed, and data does not pass through the maker’s servers (unless it calls an online service itself).

Is it still maintained?

The GitHub repo last changed –, and the latest version (1.0.2) reached the registry 4 months ago.

Which apps can use it?

Apps that support MCP, such as Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor and VS Code. You also need Python (uv) on your computer.

What can I use instead?

🧠 MCP Server: Decisions

An open-source MCP server that helps teams record architectural decisions, connect them to testable predictions, and validate outcomes over time. It gives AI agents and developers a lightweight, auditable memory for technical choices.

✨ Project Highlights

  • Outcome-linked decisions — connect each technical choice to measurable predictions and observed results.
  • In-band outcome gates — tool responses identify predictions that still need validation before the work is considered complete.
  • Portable storage — append-only JSONL keeps the log inspectable, easy to back up, and free from database setup.
  • Zero runtime dependencies — Python's standard library is enough to run the server.
  • MCP-native interface — expose decision tracking through JSON-RPC over stdio to MCP-compatible clients.
  • Technology feedback — aggregate validated outcomes to inform future technology choices.

📌 What It Provides

The server exposes four tools:

ToolPurpose
record-decisionStore the problem, chosen solution, alternatives, technologies, and predictions.
record-predictionAdd a measurable prediction to an existing decision.
record-outcomeRecord the observed result and classify the prediction as success, partial success, or failure.
query-decisionsSearch decisions by keyword, technology, domain, or result limit.
Example flow
Decide → Predict → Implement → Measure → Validate → Learn

A decision can produce an outcome-gate reminder such as:

{

"decision_id": "DEC-2026-0001", "status": "OK", "OUTCOME_GATE": "2 prediction(s) still lack outcomes." }

The reminder is a workflow signal, not a claim about adoption or measured impact. See the Outcome Gate Pattern for the design and trade-offs.

🚀 Setup

Prerequisites
  • Python 3.10 or newer
  • An MCP-compatible client
Install from PyPI
python3 -m pip install mcp-server-decisions
Run the self-test
python3 -m pip install -e .

python3 server.py --selftest

Configure an MCP client
{

"mcpServers": { "mcp-server-decisions": { "command": "mcp-server-decisions" } } }

For client-specific configuration and troubleshooting, see Client Integrations. For a guided first run, see Quick Start.

Configure the log path

By default, the server writes to ~/.local/share/mcp-decisions/decisions_log.json. Set MCP_DECISIONS_LOG_PATH to use another file:

MCP_DECISIONS_LOG_PATH=/path/to/decisions.json mcp-server-decisions
