Routine Run: write a routine

by routinerunversion 1.0.2i★ –iRuns in the cloud
Registry namecom.routinerun/routine-writer

Install

Overview

Description from the maker (original English)

Write a step-by-step routine and get a link that opens it in Routine Run on iPhone. No sign-in.

PopNx MCP’s three pillars

These three are never merged into one score: opinions, measurements and popularity are different things.

What you can do with it

We have not written a plain-language summary for this one yet. Below are the facts we read from the registry.

Install

Pick the AI app you use, then copy the settings.

Before you install

You need

Which app do you use?

Pick your app above. We remember it, so next time the button says “Install in …”.

Works in Claude on the web, desktop and mobile:

  1. Open Settings → Connectors
  2. Press Add custom connector
  3. Paste the address below and press Add
  4. If it asks you to sign in, sign in with the maker
SettingsConnectors1+ Add2https://…3
https://api.routinerun.com/mcp/public

Run this in your terminal

claude mcp add --transport http routine-writer https://api.routinerun.com/mcp/public

Open in Cursor

Or copy the settings yourself

Paste into .cursor/mcp.json in your project, or ~/.cursor/mcp.json

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "routine-writer": {
      "url": "https://api.routinerun.com/mcp/public"
    }
  }
}

Your browser asks to open the app, then the app shows the settings and asks you to confirm. Key values are left empty for you to fill in.

Open in VS Code

Or copy the settings yourself

Paste into .vscode/mcp.json in your project

{
  "servers": {
    "routine-writer": {
      "type": "http",
      "url": "https://api.routinerun.com/mcp/public"
    }
  }
}

Your browser asks to open the app, then the app shows the settings and asks you to confirm. Key values are left empty for you to fill in.

ChatGPT connects only to servers on the internet:

  1. Open ChatGPT on the web → Settings → Connectors (Apps)
  2. Press Create or Add (some plans need Developer mode under Advanced first)
  3. Paste the address below, give it a name and save
  4. If it asks you to sign in, sign in with the maker
SettingsConnectors1+ Create2https://…3

Menu names can differ slightly by plan and over time.

What it can do

Tool names and descriptions exactly as the server reported them on Nov 7, 2026. The maker wrote them, not us; we show them as plain text.

  • how_to_write_a_routine

    The JSON form Routine Run reads a routine in: every field and every action a step can take. Use it when writing a routine for routine_link, start_new_run or propose_new_routine.

  • routine_link

    Checks a routine written in the form how_to_write_a_routine describes and returns a link. Opened on an iPhone with Routine Run, it shows the routine on the app's review screen, where the person saves it or not. Nothing is kept here. Give the person the link and the JSON too, in c

  • find_starter_routine

    Searches the routines the app ships — mornings, focus, on call, chores and more — by words in their name or description. Each comes with its steps and a link that adds it in the app.

Common questions

Is Routine Run: write a routine safe?

It passed 3 of 3 applicable basic checks. We have not read the code. Before adding a key or token, see what access the server asks for and use a key with only the permissions you need.

What keys or codes does it need?

The registry does not list a required key, though some servers ask you to sign in on first use.

Does it run on my computer or in the cloud?

It runs in the maker’s cloud. Connect over the internet with nothing to install, but what you send passes through the maker’s servers.

Is it still maintained?

The GitHub repo last changed –, and the latest version (1.0.2) reached the registry 15 days ago.

Which apps can use it?

Apps that support MCP, such as Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor and VS Code. It connects by URL, so apps that accept remote MCP servers work too, such as ChatGPT in developer mode.

What can I use instead?

MCP

Two servers, both Streamable HTTP without sessions.

There is no account. Signing in to the first shows a short code; the person types it into Routine Run under Settings › Connections › Connect an assistant, and the phone itself approves the assistant. Removing that connection in the app signs it out at once. The sign-in page also offers a demo library, for trying it without the app.

Every tool, what each does, and what the relay keeps: developers/api.md. How to add it to each assistant: routinerun.com/help/assistants.

What it will and will not do

  • Reads are answered by the phone, not by a copy on a server. A phone that does not answer in about 20 seconds is said to have not answered.
  • A new routine, or a change to one, is a suggestion: it waits on the phone until the person saves it, unless they have set that assistant to save without asking.
  • Starting, planning, pausing and moving runs happen at once, and each is undone with one press.
  • Notes and values are read only where the person has turned on Read notes and values for that assistant.

Registry entries

server.json and server-writer.json are the entries in the official MCP registry, as com.routinerun/routine-run and com.routinerun/routine-writer.
