Overview

Description from the maker (original English)

Overte (open-source Vircadia-lineage metaverse) Model Context Protocol server for domain administ...

PopNx MCP’s three pillars

These three are never merged into one score: opinions, measurements and popularity are different things.

What you can do with it

We have not written a plain-language summary for this one yet. Below are the facts we read from the registry.

  • Connection: Runs on your computer
  • Transport: stdio
  • Category: Other

Install

Pick the AI app you use, then copy the settings.

Before you install

  • Basic checks: 1 of 1 passed
  • Runs on your computer with your user’s permissions (files, network, apps).
  • The registry lists no key to fill in.

Which app do you use?

Pick your app above. We remember it, so next time the button says “Install in …”.

Download the maker’s .mcpb file

The link goes to the maker’s own file; we do not host or repackage it. Open the file and Claude Desktop installs it.

Run this in your terminal

Your browser asks to open the app, then the app shows the settings and asks you to confirm. Key values are left empty for you to fill in.

These settings are generated from the maker’s registry entry. If the README says otherwise, follow the README.

What it can do

Common questions

Is Overte MCP safe?

It passed 1 of 1 applicable basic checks. We have not read the code. Before adding a key or token, see what access the server asks for and use a key with only the permissions you need.

What keys or codes does it need?

The registry does not list a required key, though some servers ask you to sign in on first use.

Does it run on my computer or in the cloud?

It runs on your computer. Your AI app starts it when needed, and data does not pass through the maker’s servers (unless it calls an online service itself).

Is it still maintained?

The GitHub repo last changed –, and the latest version (0.2.1) reached the registry 2 months ago.

Which apps can use it?

Apps that support MCP, such as Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor and VS Code. You also need MCPB on your computer.

What can I use instead?

overte-mcp

What this wraps

An MCP server for [Overte](https://overte.org), the open-source social-VR platform — a C++ desktop client ("Interface") + domain-server + entity-server, descended from High Fidelity's codebase. Not the same thing as current "Vircadia" — see docs/WRAPPEE.md for the full disambiguation and official links (site, docs, community). Complements the fleet's other virtual-world servers: resonite-mcp, vrchat-mcp, godot-mcp, unity3d-mcp, gazebo-mcp.

Plus a companion React web dashboard.

Local sandbox or join a domain

Two ways to be in a world — the dashboard keeps them separate on purpose:

  • Local sandbox (default): your own domain-server on this machine (localhost:40100). Private, free, and the only setup where the dashboard's Start/Stop buttons can launch things for you.
  • Join a domain: point the dashboard's Watching switcher at someone else's domain-server (host + admin port) to monitor it, and join it in Interface with *Connect to Domain…*. You get admin/scripting power there only if they gave you credentials.

One rule for both: spawning, injecting, and animating always act through the bridge, which lives in whatever domain your assignment-client or Interface joined. The Watching switcher changes which domain you *look at*; your spawns land where you *stand*. To flip it around — host a domain others can join, gate it to specific people, and send hifi:// invites — see docs/ONBOARDING.md ("Hosting a domain others can join") and the Help Hub in the dashboard.

What You Can Do

How it runs: Overte (domain-server + assignment-client, optionally Interface) is a separate application you install yourself, never bundled. Entity work runs through a bridge script inside Overte's script engine. Since 2026-10-31 the bridge runs headless as a domain persistent script on an assignment-client: no GUI, no logged-in user (overte_bridge_install sets it up). Loading it in the desktop Interface client still works when you want to watch. See docs/ONBOARDING.md.

Quick Install

Claude Desktop (.mcpb) — Claude-only one-liner
irm https://github.com/sandraschi/overte-mcp/releases/latest/download/install.ps1 | iex

One command: downloads the latest .mcpb, installs Python/uv if missing, and registers the bundle. Claude Desktop only.

Other clients (Cursor / VS Code / Codex / Opencode) — no bundle needed:

{

"mcpServers": { "overte-mcp": { "command": "uvx", "args": ["--from", "git+https://github.com/sandraschi/overte-mcp.git", "overte-mcp"] } } }

From source: just mcpb-pack → dist/overte-mcp.mcpb, then drag the .mcpb into Claude Desktop. Full install paths: INSTALL.md.

Full stack (dashboard + bridge)
./start.ps1

Syncs deps, starts FastAPI backend (11110) and Vite dashboard (11111), opens the browser. Then start Overte domain-server.exe and assignment-client.exe -n 9, and run overte_bridge_install once. Or let just e2e-headless do it all and report pass/fail. See docs/ONBOARDING.md.

Example Prompts

  • "What's the status of my Overte domain?"
  • "Spawn a permanent box entity at the origin"
  • "Attach the dance script to that entity"

Lint / test

just lint # Ruff + Biome

just test # unit + e2e just mcpb-pack # validate + pack Claude Desktop bundle
