Overview

Description from the maker (original English)

Microsoft 365 via Graph — mail, calendar, contacts, files, Teams, Planner, OneNote, To Do.

PopNx MCP’s three pillars

These three are never merged into one score: opinions, measurements and popularity are different things.

What you can do with it

We have not written a plain-language summary for this one yet. Below are the facts we read from the registry.

  • Connection: Runs on your computer
  • Transport: stdio
  • Category: Docs, sheets & office work
  • You need to fill in: MS365_CLIENT_ID, MS365_CLIENT_SECRET, MS365_CERT_PASSWORD, MS365_ACCESS_TOKEN

Install

Pick the AI app you use, then copy the settings.

Before you install

  • Basic checks: 1 of 1 passed
  • Runs on your computer with your user’s permissions (files, network, apps).
  • You fill in yourself: MS365_CLIENT_ID, MS365_TENANT_ID, MS365_CLIENT_SECRET, MS365_CERT_PATH, MS365_CERT_PASSWORD, MS365_ACCESS_TOKEN, MS365_AUTH_MODE, MS365_OAUTH_BASE_URL, MS365_READ_ONLY, MS365_ENABLED_TOOLS, MS365_PRESETS, MS365_ORG_MODE, TRANSPORT_TYPE

Values marked secret are keys to your account. Never share them or paste them into a chat.

You need

  • npmNode.js installed (for the npx command)

Which app do you use?

Pick your app above. We remember it, so next time the button says “Install in …”.

Your browser asks to open the app, then the app shows the settings and asks you to confirm. Key values are left empty for you to fill in.

This one runs on your computer, and ChatGPT can only connect to servers on the internet. Pick another app.

Your choice stays on this device in a cookie; no account needed.

Values you fill in

  • MS365_CLIENT_ID required env
Azure AD application (client) ID. Every mode except client-token needs it.
  • MS365_TENANT_ID env
Azure AD tenant ID, or 'common'/'organizations'/'consumers'. Read by certificate, client-secret and oauth-proxy modes.
  • MS365_CLIENT_SECRET secret env
Azure AD client secret (client-secret mode).
  • MS365_CERT_PATH env
Path to the certificate used by certificate mode.
  • MS365_CERT_PASSWORD secret env
Password for the certificate at MS365_CERT_PATH, if it has one.
  • MS365_ACCESS_TOKEN secret env
A Graph access token supplied directly (client-token mode).
  • MS365_AUTH_MODE env
Auth mode: interactive (default), certificate, client-secret, client-token or oauth-proxy.
  • MS365_OAUTH_BASE_URL env
Base URL of the OAuth proxy (oauth-proxy mode).
  • MS365_READ_ONLY env
Set to 'true' to expose read-only tools and refuse every write.
  • MS365_ENABLED_TOOLS env
Case-insensitive regular expression matched against tool names; only matching tools are registered. Not a comma-separated list.
  • MS365_PRESETS env
Comma-separated tool presets to enable instead of naming tools individually.
  • MS365_ORG_MODE env
Set to 'true' for organisation-wide (application-permission) behaviour.
  • TRANSPORT_TYPE env
Transport: 'stdio' (the default, and what this npm package is listed as) or 'httpStream' for remote/Docker deployments.

These settings are generated from the maker’s registry entry. If the README says otherwise, follow the README.

Common questions

Is Microsoft365 MCP Server safe?

It passed 1 of 1 applicable basic checks. We have not read the code. Before adding a key or token, see what access the server asks for and use a key with only the permissions you need.

What keys or codes does it need?

You need to fill in: MS365_CLIENT_ID, MS365_CLIENT_SECRET, MS365_CERT_PASSWORD, MS365_ACCESS_TOKEN

Does it run on my computer or in the cloud?

It runs on your computer. Your AI app starts it when needed, and data does not pass through the maker’s servers (unless it calls an online service itself).

Is it still maintained?

The GitHub repo last changed –, and the latest version (1.3.0) reached the registry yesterday.

Which apps can use it?

Apps that support MCP, such as Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor and VS Code. You also need Node.js on your computer.

What can I use instead?

microsoft365-mcp monorepo

pnpm workspace for the Microsoft Graph MCP servers. Descends from the archived sapientsai/microsoft-mcp-server — split into two focused servers over a shared core. The app-only server keeps the original microsoft-mcp-server name; the delegated server is microsoft365-mcp-server.

Packages

  • [`packages/microsoft365`](packages/microsoft365) — microsoft365-mcp-server, the delegated (OAuth-proxy) MS365 gateway: 40+ tools across mail, calendar, contacts, files, Teams, Planner, OneNote, To Do, and more via Microsoft Graph. Published to npm. See its README and the monorepo DEPLOYMENT.md.
  • [`packages/graph`](packages/graph) — microsoft-mcp-server (the original name), a lean app-only (client_credentials) server purpose-built for headless document-RAG: microsoft_graph passthrough + microsoft_graph_batch + read_document + sharepoint_search + optional azure_ai_search + a /upload relay. Ships as a Docker image at ghcr.io/sapientsai/microsoft-mcp-server. See its README.
  • [`packages/core`](packages/core) — @sapientsai/ms-graph-core, the shared plumbing (upload helpers, ticket tokens, OData/pagination, error and auth-strategy types) used by both servers. Internal workspace package, not published.

Pick by auth model: use packages/microsoft365 when a user is present to consent (interactive OAuth); use packages/graph for tenant-wide, headless, app-only deployments.

Development

pnpm install

pnpm validate # format + lint + test + build across all packages pnpm build # build all packages pnpm test # test all packages

Per-package commands run inside the package dir, e.g.:

pnpm --filter microsoft365-mcp-server build

pnpm --filter microsoft-mcp-server dev
