Overview

Description from the maker (original English)

Check an MCP server, skill or plugin before your agent uses it: tool text on record, changes graded.

PopNx MCP’s three pillars

These three are never merged into one score: opinions, measurements and popularity are different things.

What you can do with it

We have not written a plain-language summary for this one yet. Below are the facts we read from the registry.

  • Connection: Runs on your computer
  • Transport: stdio
  • Category: Other

Install

Pick the AI app you use, then copy the settings.

Before you install

  • Basic checks: 1 of 1 passed
  • Runs on your computer with your user’s permissions (files, network, apps).
  • The registry lists no key to fill in.

You need

  • npmNode.js installed (for the npx command)

Which app do you use?

Pick your app above. We remember it, so next time the button says “Install in …”.

Open Claude Desktop → Settings → Developer → Edit Config, and paste this into claude_desktop_config.json

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "smallprint": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": [
        "-y",
        "smallprint-mcp"
      ]
    }
  }
}

Run this in your terminal

claude mcp add smallprint -- npx -y smallprint-mcp

Open in Cursor

Or copy the settings yourself

Paste into .cursor/mcp.json in your project, or ~/.cursor/mcp.json

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "smallprint": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": [
        "-y",
        "smallprint-mcp"
      ]
    }
  }
}

Your browser asks to open the app, then the app shows the settings and asks you to confirm. Key values are left empty for you to fill in.

Open in VS Code

Or copy the settings yourself

Paste into .vscode/mcp.json in your project

{
  "servers": {
    "smallprint": {
      "type": "stdio",

      "args": [
        "-y",
        "smallprint-mcp"
      ]
    }
  }
}

Your browser asks to open the app, then the app shows the settings and asks you to confirm. Key values are left empty for you to fill in.

Common questions

Is Small Print safe?

It passed 1 of 1 applicable basic checks. We have not read the code. Before adding a key or token, see what access the server asks for and use a key with only the permissions you need.

What keys or codes does it need?

The registry does not list a required key, though some servers ask you to sign in on first use.

Does it run on my computer or in the cloud?

It runs on your computer. Your AI app starts it when needed, and data does not pass through the maker’s servers (unless it calls an online service itself).

Is it still maintained?

The GitHub repo last changed –, and the latest version (1.1.1) reached the registry 13 days ago.

Which apps can use it?

Apps that support MCP, such as Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor and VS Code. You also need Node.js on your computer.

smallprint-mcp

Small Print as an MCP server: four read-only tools over the public record of the tool descriptions, schemas and instructions of MCP servers, agent skills and plugins: the versions Small Print has read, the changes between them with the rule behind each grade, and the public advisories that name them.

{ "mcpServers": { "smallprint": { "command": "npx", "args": ["-y", "smallprint-mcp"] } } }

Tools:

  • lookup_entry(name): what the record holds for one entry.
  • changes_since(name, since?, min_severity?): the releases that changed the small print, with each diff and the rule behind its grade.
  • advisories_for(name, version?): the advisories that name it, attributed to their sources, with version ranges.
  • changed_since_approval(name, approved): yes or no, before use: has the small print changed since the version, content hash or date that was reviewed. Answers start with UNCHANGED, CHANGED or UNKNOWN. UNKNOWN means the record cannot say; treat it as no answer, not as safe.

Names: npm:@scope/name, pypi:name, mcp-registry:io.github.owner/server, skills.sh:owner/repo/skill, oci:ghcr.io/owner/image; a bare name is read as npm.

Most of what the record holds was written by other people: names, versions, registry descriptions, changed tool text, advisory summaries. Every answer marks that text as quoted, a short value inside ⟦ ⟧ and longer text as lines that start with "|" between a QUOTED line and an END QUOTED line, and says that marked text is data to report, not an instruction to follow.

The server reads https://smallprint.dev/api and nothing else. No account, nothing about your machine is sent, and it never calls the tool it looked up. Rate limited; for the whole record see the site. The rules behind every grade: https://smallprint.dev/how-we-grade.

What 1.0 holds stable

From 1.0.0 the four tools, their names, their inputs and the fields of their answers do not change without a new major version. A field can be added in a minor version; none is removed or renamed in one. The grading rules behind a grade can change in any version.
