Overview

Description from the maker (original English)

ZKshare stdio MCP: store/prove/share, semantic search, sandbox proxy to HTTPS /api/v1/context.

PopNx MCP’s three pillars

These three are never merged into one score: opinions, measurements and popularity are different things.

What you can do with it

We have not written a plain-language summary for this one yet. Below are the facts we read from the registry.

  • Connection: Runs on your computer
  • Transport: stdio
  • Category: Search & AI memory
  • You need to fill in: ZKSHARE_API_KEY

Install

Pick the AI app you use, then copy the settings.

Before you install

  • Basic checks: 1 of 1 passed
  • Runs on your computer with your user’s permissions (files, network, apps).
  • You fill in yourself: ZKSHARE_API_KEY, ZKSHARE_API_URL

Values marked secret are keys to your account. Never share them or paste them into a chat.

You need

  • npmNode.js installed (for the npx command)

Which app do you use?

Pick your app above. We remember it, so next time the button says “Install in …”.

Open Claude Desktop → Settings → Developer → Edit Config, and paste this into claude_desktop_config.json

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "zkshare": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": [
        "-y",
        "zkshare-mcp"
      ],
      "env": {
        "ZKSHARE_API_KEY": "your-value",
        "ZKSHARE_API_URL": "your-value"
      }
    }
  }
}

Run this in your terminal

claude mcp add zkshare --env ZKSHARE_API_KEY=your-value --env ZKSHARE_API_URL=your-value -- npx -y zkshare-mcp

Fill in the empty values before running it.

Open in Cursor

Or copy the settings yourself

Paste into .cursor/mcp.json in your project, or ~/.cursor/mcp.json

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "zkshare": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": [
        "-y",
        "zkshare-mcp"
      ],
      "env": {
        "ZKSHARE_API_KEY": "your-value",
        "ZKSHARE_API_URL": "your-value"
      }
    }
  }
}

Your browser asks to open the app, then the app shows the settings and asks you to confirm. Key values are left empty for you to fill in.

Open in VS Code

Or copy the settings yourself

Paste into .vscode/mcp.json in your project

{
  "servers": {
    "zkshare": {
      "type": "stdio",
      "command": "npx",
      "args": [
        "-y",
        "zkshare-mcp"
      ],
      "env": {
        "ZKSHARE_API_KEY": "your-value",
        "ZKSHARE_API_URL": "your-value"
      }
    }
  }
}

Your browser asks to open the app, then the app shows the settings and asks you to confirm. Key values are left empty for you to fill in.

This one runs on your computer, and ChatGPT can only connect to servers on the internet. Pick another app.

Your choice stays on this device in a cookie; no account needed.

Values you fill in

  • ZKSHARE_API_KEY secret required env
    ZKshare API key (zk_live_…). Create one at zkshare.io/api-key — required for POST /api/v1/context.
  • ZKSHARE_API_URL env
    API origin including scheme; omit for production (https://zkshare.io). Use http://localhost:3000 only when self-hosting.

These settings are generated from the maker’s registry entry. If the README says otherwise, follow the README.

Common questions

Is ZKshare safe?

It passed 1 of 1 applicable basic checks. We have not read the code. Before adding a key or token, see what access the server asks for and use a key with only the permissions you need.

What keys or codes does it need?

You need to fill in: ZKSHARE_API_KEY

Does it run on my computer or in the cloud?

It runs on your computer. Your AI app starts it when needed, and data does not pass through the maker’s servers (unless it calls an online service itself).

Is it still maintained?

The GitHub repo last changed –, and the latest version (1.0.1) reached the registry 6 months ago.

Which apps can use it?

Apps that support MCP, such as Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor and VS Code. You also need Node.js on your computer.

What can I use instead?

zkshare-mcp

Published on npm. Stdio Model Context Protocol server for [ZKshare](https://zkshare.io) — forwards tool calls to POST /api/v1/context with your API key.

Registry name: io.github.sp0oby/zkshare on the official Model Context Protocol Registry preview (verification field mcpName in package.json must stay identical to the name field in server.json).

MCP Registry (registry.modelcontextprotocol.io)

ZKshare participates in (or prepares for) discovery via the [official MCP Registry](https://github.com/modelcontextprotocol/registry) preview. Metadata lives in `server.json` next to this package; the runnable artifact stays on npm.

Having `zkshare-mcp` on npm (e.g. v1.0.0) is only half the story: the registry checks the tarball’s `package.json` for mcpName — that field was added in repo for v1.0.1. Until 1.0.1 is published to npm, `mcp-publisher publish` may fail verification. npx -y zkshare-mcp@1.0.0** continues to work unchanged for users already on npm.

One-time prerequisites
  1. npm account with publish rights to `zkshare-mcp`.
  2. GitHub account (`sp0oby`) matching the io.github.sp0oby/… namespace when using GitHub device login.
  3. Install the publisher CLI (quickstart).
Publish flow (maintainers)
  1. Align versions — bump "version" in package.json, src/version.ts, and the version fields in `server.json` together.
  2. Build & publish npm — from this directory:
  • pnpm install && pnpm run build
  • npm publish --access public (prepublishOnly runs pnpm run build).
  1. Registry — install mcp-publisher, then from `packages/zkshare-mcp/`:
  • mcp-publisher login github — device flow; GitHub user must match the namespace (`sp0oby`).
  • mcp-publisher publish — uploads server.json (omit if you intentionally only ship npm).
Verify after publish
curl "https://registry.modelcontextprotocol.io/v0.1/servers?search=io.github.sp0oby/zkshare"

If `mcp-publisher` errors on validation, confirm description stays ≤100 characters (registry JSON schema).

Alternate namespaces

To use DNS or another auth method instead of `io.github.sp0oby` — change `mcpName`, `server.json` → `name`, and redo ownership verification — see registry docs on authentication and DNS in the same docs tree.

Use (no repo clone)

Needs Node.js ≥ 18.

npx -y zkshare-mcp

Your IDE normally runs this; set env in MCP settings.

Env
VariableRequiredDescription
ZKSHARE_API_KEYYesFrom zkshare.io/api-key
ZKSHARE_API_URLNoDefault https://zkshare.io. Use http://localhost:3000 only for a self-hosted API.

On Windows, npx ships with Node (npx.cmd).
