Overview

Description from the maker (original English)

Web tools for AI agents: scrape pages to Markdown, audit SEO, detect tech stacks, check sitemaps

PopNx MCP’s three pillars

These three are never merged into one score: opinions, measurements and popularity are different things.

What you can do with it

We have not written a plain-language summary for this one yet. Below are the facts we read from the registry.

  • Connection: Computer or cloud
  • Transport: stdio, Streamable HTTP
  • Category: Marketing & social media
  • You need to fill in: TOOLTRACE_API_KEY, Authorization

Install

Pick the AI app you use, then copy the settings.

Before you install

  • Basic checks: 1 of 1 passed
  • Runs on the maker’s server: what you ask it goes through their server.
  • You fill in yourself: TOOLTRACE_API_KEY, Authorization

Values marked secret are keys to your account. Never share them or paste them into a chat.

You need

  • Runs in the cloudNothing to install; it connects over the internet
  • npmNode.js installed (for the npx command)

Which app do you use?

Pick your app above. We remember it, so next time the button says “Install in …”.

This address needs a key in a request header, which the add-connector menu cannot set. Use Claude Code, Cursor or VS Code instead.

Or run it on your computer

Open Claude Desktop → Settings → Developer → Edit Config, and paste this into claude_desktop_config.json

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "tooltrace": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": [
        "-y",
        "@tooltrace/mcp-server"
      ],
      "env": {
        "TOOLTRACE_API_KEY": "your-value"
      }
    }
  }
}

Run this in your terminal

claude mcp add --transport http tooltrace https://mcp.tooltrace.io/mcp --header 'Authorization: Bearer {TOOLTRACE_API_KEY}'

Or run it on your computer

claude mcp add tooltrace --env TOOLTRACE_API_KEY=your-value -- npx -y @tooltrace/mcp-server

Fill in the empty values before running it.

Open in Cursor

Or copy the settings yourself

Paste into .cursor/mcp.json in your project, or ~/.cursor/mcp.json

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "tooltrace": {
      "url": "https://mcp.tooltrace.io/mcp",
      "headers": {
        "Authorization": "Bearer {TOOLTRACE_API_KEY}"
      }
    }
  }
}

Common questions

Is Tooltrace MCP safe?

It passed 1 of 1 applicable basic checks. We have not read the code. Before adding a key or token, see what access the server asks for and use a key with only the permissions you need.

What keys or codes does it need?

You need to fill in: TOOLTRACE_API_KEY, Authorization

Does it run on my computer or in the cloud?

Either way works: install it on your computer or connect to the cloud version.

Is it still maintained?

The GitHub repo last changed –, and the latest version (0.1.3) reached the registry 2 months ago.

Which apps can use it?

Apps that support MCP, such as Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor and VS Code. It connects by URL, so apps that accept remote MCP servers work too, such as ChatGPT in developer mode.

ToolTrace MCP Server

Give AI agents a complete web intelligence toolkit. This Model Context Protocol server connects Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Cursor, VS Code, Codex, Windsurf and any other MCP client to the ToolTrace API.

One tool per ToolTrace endpoint: scrape any page to clean Markdown, read metadata and JSON-LD, extract links, run on-page SEO audits, detect a site's tech stack, and check XML sitemaps. Free tier included, no card required.

Setup guide: tooltrace.io/mcp

Two ways to connect

Hosted, for clients that take a connector URL. Nothing to install or update:

https://mcp.tooltrace.io/mcp
claude mcp add --transport http tooltrace https://mcp.tooltrace.io/mcp \

--header "Authorization: Bearer your-api-key"

Also listed on Smithery.

Local, over stdio, for clients that run a process. Use this when your client does not speak HTTP, or when you would rather your API key never left your own machine. That is the quick start below.

Both expose the same tools and bill the same credits.

Quick start

1. Get a free API key

Sign up at tooltrace.io/signup. The free plan includes 1,000 credits per month.

2. Install
npm install -g @tooltrace/mcp-server
3. Configure your MCP client

Claude Desktop (~/Library/Application Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json):

{

"mcpServers": { "tooltrace": { "command": "tooltrace-mcp", "env": { "TOOLTRACE_API_KEY": "your-api-key" } } } }

Claude Code:

claude mcp add tooltrace tooltrace-mcp -e TOOLTRACE_API_KEY=your-api-key

Cursor (.cursor/mcp.json):

{

"mcpServers": { "tooltrace": { "command": "tooltrace-mcp", "env": { "TOOLTRACE_API_KEY": "your-api-key" } } } }

VS Code (.vscode/mcp.json):

{

"servers": { "tooltrace": { "command": "tooltrace-mcp", "env": { "TOOLTRACE_API_KEY": "your-api-key" } } } }

Codex (~/.codex/config.toml):

[mcp_servers.tooltrace]

command = "tooltrace-mcp" env = { TOOLTRACE_API_KEY = "your-api-key" }

Windsurf (mcp_config.json):

{

"mcpServers": { "tooltrace": { "command": "tooltrace-mcp", "env": { "TOOLTRACE_API_KEY": "your-api-key" } } } }

Any other MCP client: run tooltrace-mcp over stdio and set the TOOLTRACE_API_KEY environment variable. Full per-client setup guide at tooltrace.io/mcp.

Run with npx (no install)
TOOLTRACE_API_KEY=your-api-key npx @tooltrace/mcp-server

Usage examples

Once connected, your AI agent can:

  • "Extract the main content from this blog post as Markdown"
  • "What technologies does competitor.com use?"
  • "Run an SEO audit on our landing page"
  • "Get all the links from this documentation page"
  • "Extract the JSON-LD schema from this product page"
  • "Check the sitemap for this website"

Rendering modes

All tools support a render parameter:

  • `never`: Fast static fetch, 1 credit. Best for server-rendered pages.
  • `auto` (default): Starts static, renders in browser if needed. 1 or 5 credits.
  • `always`: Full browser rendering, 5 credits. For JavaScript-heavy SPAs.
