Overview

Description from the maker (original English)

List workflows and variables; create sessions and list session documents in Gavel.

PopNx MCP’s three pillars

These three are never merged into one score: opinions, measurements and popularity are different things.

What you can do with it

We have not written a plain-language summary for this one yet. Below are the facts we read from the registry.

Install

Pick the AI app you use, then copy the settings.

Before you install

  • Basic checks: 3 of 3 passed
  • Runs on the maker’s server: what you ask it goes through their server.
  • Can do 4 things (tools) gavel_list_workflows, gavel_get_workflow_variables, gavel_create_session, gavel_list_session_documents
  • The registry lists no key to fill in.

You need

Which app do you use?

Pick your app above. We remember it, so next time the button says “Install in …”.

Works in Claude on the web, desktop and mobile:

  1. Open Settings → Connectors
  2. Press Add custom connector
  3. Paste the address below and press Add
  4. If it asks you to sign in, sign in with the maker
SettingsConnectors1+ Add2https://…3
https://gavel.usefulapi.io/mcp

Run this in your terminal

claude mcp add --transport http gavel https://gavel.usefulapi.io/mcp

Open in Cursor

Or copy the settings yourself

Paste into .cursor/mcp.json in your project, or ~/.cursor/mcp.json

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "gavel": {
      "url": "https://gavel.usefulapi.io/mcp"
    }
  }
}

Your browser asks to open the app, then the app shows the settings and asks you to confirm. Key values are left empty for you to fill in.

Open in VS Code

Or copy the settings yourself

Paste into .vscode/mcp.json in your project

{
  "servers": {
    "gavel": {
      "type": "http",
      "url": "https://gavel.usefulapi.io/mcp"
    }
  }
}

Your browser asks to open the app, then the app shows the settings and asks you to confirm. Key values are left empty for you to fill in.

ChatGPT connects only to servers on the internet:

  1. Open ChatGPT on the web → Settings → Connectors (Apps)
  2. Press Create or Add (some plans need Developer mode under Advanced first)
  3. Paste the address below, give it a name and save
  4. If it asks you to sign in, sign in with the maker

What it can do

Tool names and descriptions exactly as the server reported them on Nov 6, 2026. The maker wrote them, not us; we show them as plain text.

  • gavel_list_workflows

    List the names of all Gavel workflows on the account. API: GET /api/playground?folder=questions.

  • gavel_get_workflow_variables

    Get the variable schema of one workflow: each variable name, data type, input type, label, options and whether it is required. Use it to learn what data gavel_create_session accepts. API: GET /officeaddin?pgtypes= .yml.

  • gavel_create_session

    WRITE: create a new session of a workflow with pre-filled variables. It does not send or sign anything. Each call creates one more session. Returns session_id and a continuation_url. If all variables are given, the URL opens the document download page; else the user answers only

  • gavel_list_session_documents

    List the documents of a completed workflow session: name, format (docx or pdf), type, source template and download URL. This tool returns metadata only. The download URL needs the X-Api-Key header. API: GET /api/documate/v1/data-manager/workflows/{name}/session/{id}/documents.

Common questions

Is Gavel MCP by usefulapi safe?

It passed 3 of 3 applicable basic checks. We have not read the code. Before adding a key or token, see what access the server asks for and use a key with only the permissions you need.

What keys or codes does it need?

The registry does not list a required key, though some servers ask you to sign in on first use.

Does it run on my computer or in the cloud?

It runs in the maker’s cloud. Connect over the internet with nothing to install, but what you send passes through the maker’s servers.

Is it still maintained?

The GitHub repo last changed –, and the latest version (1.2.3) reached the registry yesterday.

Which apps can use it?

Apps that support MCP, such as Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor and VS Code. It connects by URL, so apps that accept remote MCP servers work too, such as ChatGPT in developer mode.

What can I use instead?

Gavel MCP by usefulapi

Use your Gavel account from Claude, Cursor, or any MCP client. List workflows and their variables, create workflow sessions and list the documents of a session. Hosted, no local install: connect with your own credentials.

Live endpoint: https://gavel.usefulapi.io/mcp · Homepage: https://usefulapi.io

Connect

  • Claude (claude.ai, Desktop): open Customize → Connectors, click + Add → Add custom connector, and paste https://gavel.usefulapi.io/mcp.
  • Claude Code: claude mcp add --transport http gavel https://gavel.usefulapi.io/mcp, then run /mcp to log in.
  • VS Code: Add to VS Code.
  • Cursor and other clients: add the URL as a remote MCP server:
{

"mcpServers": { "gavel": { "url": "https://gavel.usefulapi.io/mcp" } } }

Add only the URL. Do not add an Authorization header or an API key to the client config: the server signs you in with OAuth, and the login page asks for your Gavel credentials.

Step-by-step setup, where to find your credentials, and FAQ: https://usefulapi.io/gavel/

On first connect you provide your Gavel subdomain and a Gavel API key (Gavel → Settings → API Keys). You need a Builder or Admin role and a plan with API access. The server validates it and stores it per user. No keys go in config files.
