Overview

Description from the maker (original English)

Read Tick clients, projects, tasks, users and time entries; log and edit time entries.

PopNx MCP’s three pillars

These three are never merged into one score: opinions, measurements and popularity are different things.

What you can do with it

We have not written a plain-language summary for this one yet. Below are the facts we read from the registry.

Install

Pick the AI app you use, then copy the settings.

Before you install

You need

Which app do you use?

Pick your app above. We remember it, so next time the button says “Install in …”.

Works in Claude on the web, desktop and mobile:

  1. Open Settings → Connectors
  2. Press Add custom connector
  3. Paste the address below and press Add
  4. If it asks you to sign in, sign in with the maker
SettingsConnectors1+ Add2https://…3
https://tick.usefulapi.io/mcp

Run this in your terminal

claude mcp add --transport http tick https://tick.usefulapi.io/mcp

Open in Cursor

Or copy the settings yourself

Paste into .cursor/mcp.json in your project, or ~/.cursor/mcp.json

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "tick": {
      "url": "https://tick.usefulapi.io/mcp"
    }
  }
}

Your browser asks to open the app, then the app shows the settings and asks you to confirm. Key values are left empty for you to fill in.

Open in VS Code

Or copy the settings yourself

Paste into .vscode/mcp.json in your project

{
  "servers": {
    "tick": {
      "type": "http",
      "url": "https://tick.usefulapi.io/mcp"
    }
  }
}

Your browser asks to open the app, then the app shows the settings and asks you to confirm. Key values are left empty for you to fill in.

ChatGPT connects only to servers on the internet:

  1. Open ChatGPT on the web → Settings → Connectors (Apps)
  2. Press Create or Add (some plans need Developer mode under Advanced first)
  3. Paste the address below, give it a name and save
  4. If it asks you to sign in, sign in with the maker
SettingsConnectors1+ Create2https://…3
https://tick.usefulapi.io/mcp

Menu names can differ slightly by plan and over time.

Your choice stays on this device in a cookie; no account needed.

These settings are generated from the maker’s registry entry. If the README says otherwise, follow the README.

What it can do

Tool names and descriptions exactly as the server reported them on Nov 6, 2026. The maker wrote them, not us; we show them as plain text.

  • tick_list_clients

    List Tick clients. By default only clients that have open projects; set include_all=true for every client (also archived or without projects). 100 per page. GET /clients.json or /clients/all.json.

  • tick_get_client

    One client by id, with a summary of its projects (count and URL). GET /clients/{id}.json.

  • tick_list_projects

    List Tick projects with budget (hours or money), billable flag, client_id and owner_id. Open projects by default; status=closed for closed ones. 100 per page. GET /projects.json or /projects/closed.json.

  • tick_get_project

    One project by id, with total_hours entered, a summary of its tasks (count and URL) and its client. GET /projects/{id}.json.

  • tick_list_tasks

    List Tick tasks (the budget lines that time entries are logged against). Across all projects, or for one project when project_id is given. Open tasks by default; status=closed for closed ones. You need a task id to log time. 100 per page. GET /tasks.json, /tasks/closed.json, /pro

  • tick_get_task

  • tick_list_users

  • tick_list_entries

    List time entries. Tick requires EITHER start_date AND end_date (entries dated in that range) OR updated_at (entries created or changed after that time). Optional filters: project_id, task_id, user_id, billable, billed. Each entry has date, hours, notes, task_id, user_id. 100 per

  • tick_get_entry

    One time entry by id, with its task. GET /entries/{id}.json.

  • tick_create_entry

    WRITE: log a new time entry on a task (POST /entries.json). Needs the task id (see tick_list_tasks). hours is a decimal (1.5 = 1h30m). user_id is only honored for administrators (otherwise the entry is yours). Creates a new entry every call; nothing is sent to anyone.

  • tick_update_entry

    WRITE: change an existing time entry (PUT /entries/{id}.json): hours, notes, date, task, or mark it billed. Only the fields you pass change; the previous values are overwritten.

  • tick_create_client

    WRITE: create a new client (POST /clients.json). Tick administrators only (403 otherwise). Creates a new client every call.

  • tick_create_project

    WRITE: create a new project (POST /projects.json). Tick administrators only. The project has no tasks: create at least one with tick_create_task before time can be logged. Creates a new project every call.

  • tick_create_task

    WRITE: create a new task on a project (POST /tasks.json). Tick administrators only. Creates a new task every call.

Common questions

Is Tick MCP by usefulapi safe?

It passed 3 of 3 applicable basic checks. We have not read the code. Before adding a key or token, see what access the server asks for and use a key with only the permissions you need.

What keys or codes does it need?

The registry does not list a required key, though some servers ask you to sign in on first use.

Does it run on my computer or in the cloud?

It runs in the maker’s cloud. Connect over the internet with nothing to install, but what you send passes through the maker’s servers.

Is it still maintained?

The GitHub repo last changed –, and the latest version (1.22.3) reached the registry yesterday.

Which apps can use it?

Apps that support MCP, such as Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor and VS Code. It connects by URL, so apps that accept remote MCP servers work too, such as ChatGPT in developer mode.

What can I use instead?

Tick MCP by usefulapi

Use Tick from Claude, Cursor, or any MCP client — clients, projects, tasks, users and time entries, plus logging time against budgets. Hosted, no local install: connect with your own Tick credentials.

Live endpoint: https://tick.usefulapi.io/mcp · Homepage: https://usefulapi.io/tick

Connect

  • Claude (claude.ai, Desktop): open Customize → Connectors, click + Add → Add custom connector, and paste https://tick.usefulapi.io/mcp.
  • Claude Code: claude mcp add --transport http tick https://tick.usefulapi.io/mcp, then run /mcp to log in.
  • VS Code: Add to VS Code.
  • Cursor and other clients: add the URL as a remote MCP server:
{

"mcpServers": { "tick": { "url": "https://tick.usefulapi.io/mcp" } } }

Add only the URL. Do not add an Authorization header or an API key to the client config: the server signs you in with OAuth, and the login page asks for your Tick credentials.
