Overview

Description from the maker (original English)

Read your WakaTime coding time: summaries, stats, projects, goals, commits and leaderboards.

PopNx MCP’s three pillars

These three are never merged into one score: opinions, measurements and popularity are different things.

What you can do with it

We have not written a plain-language summary for this one yet. Below are the facts we read from the registry.

Install

Pick the AI app you use, then copy the settings.

Before you install

  • Basic checks: 3 of 3 passed
  • Runs on the maker’s server: what you ask it goes through their server.
  • Can do 23 things (tools) wakatime_get_user, wakatime_get_summaries, wakatime_get_stats, wakatime_get_all_time_since_today …
  • The registry lists no key to fill in.

You need

Which app do you use?

Pick your app above. We remember it, so next time the button says “Install in …”.

Works in Claude on the web, desktop and mobile:

  1. Open Settings → Connectors
  2. Press Add custom connector
  3. Paste the address below and press Add
  4. If it asks you to sign in, sign in with the maker
SettingsConnectors1+ Add2https://…3
https://wakatime.usefulapi.io/mcp

Run this in your terminal

claude mcp add --transport http wakatime https://wakatime.usefulapi.io/mcp

Open in Cursor

Or copy the settings yourself

Paste into .cursor/mcp.json in your project, or ~/.cursor/mcp.json

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "wakatime": {
      "url": "https://wakatime.usefulapi.io/mcp"
    }
  }
}

Your browser asks to open the app, then the app shows the settings and asks you to confirm. Key values are left empty for you to fill in.

Open in VS Code

Or copy the settings yourself

Paste into .vscode/mcp.json in your project

{
  "servers": {
    "wakatime": {
      "type": "http",
      "url": "https://wakatime.usefulapi.io/mcp"
    }
  }
}

Your browser asks to open the app, then the app shows the settings and asks you to confirm. Key values are left empty for you to fill in.

ChatGPT connects only to servers on the internet:

  1. Open ChatGPT on the web → Settings → Connectors (Apps)
  2. Press Create or Add (some plans need Developer mode under Advanced first)
  3. Paste the address below, give it a name and save
  4. If it asks you to sign in, sign in with the maker

These settings are generated from the maker’s registry entry. If the README says otherwise, follow the README.

What it can do

Tool names and descriptions exactly as the server reported them on Nov 6, 2026. The maker wrote them, not us; we show them as plain text.

  • wakatime_get_user

  • wakatime_get_summaries

    Coding activity as one summary per day for a date range: grand total plus breakdowns by project, language, editor, operating system, category, dependencies and machine, with cumulative total and daily average. Give start and end, or one named range. Use project (and branches) to

  • wakatime_get_stats

    Aggregated coding stats for a range: total time, daily average, best day, AI vs human line changes, and the full breakdown by language, project, editor, operating system, category, dependencies and machine. If the reply says it is still calculating, call again shortly. GET /users

    Total coding time since the user's WakaTime account (or one project) was created, with daily average and the range covered. GET /users/current/all_time_since_today.

  • wakatime_get_status_bar_today

    Today's coding activity as shown in an editor status bar: grand total plus breakdowns by project, language, editor and more. Cached data only; an empty summary means the cache is still being filled. GET /users/current/status_bar/today.

  • wakatime_get_insight

    One WakaTime insight for a range: stats, weekdays (average per weekday), days (per-day totals, optionally one weekday), ai_days, best_day, daily_average, or a breakdown by projects, languages, editors, categories, machines or operating_systems. GET /users/current/insights/{insigh

  • wakatime_get_durations

    The coding sessions (durations) of one day, each with start time, length in seconds and the project (or other slice) it belongs to. Needs the read_heartbeats scope for OAuth tokens. GET /users/current/durations.

  • wakatime_get_heartbeats

    The raw heartbeats (activity pings from editor plugins) of one day: entity (file path or domain), type, category, project, branch, language, time, lines and AI line changes. Large days are cut to `limit` heartbeats starting at `offset`; total_heartbeats says how many the day has.

  • wakatime_list_projects

    The user's WakaTime projects with id, name, repository, color, clients, first and last heartbeat time and badge/public-url flags. Optionally filter by a name search. GET /users/current/projects.

Common questions

Is WakaTime MCP by usefulapi safe?

It passed 3 of 3 applicable basic checks. We have not read the code. Before adding a key or token, see what access the server asks for and use a key with only the permissions you need.

What keys or codes does it need?

The registry does not list a required key, though some servers ask you to sign in on first use.

Does it run on my computer or in the cloud?

It runs in the maker’s cloud. Connect over the internet with nothing to install, but what you send passes through the maker’s servers.

Is it still maintained?

The GitHub repo last changed –, and the latest version (1.22.4) reached the registry today.

Which apps can use it?

Apps that support MCP, such as Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor and VS Code. It connects by URL, so apps that accept remote MCP servers work too, such as ChatGPT in developer mode.

What can I use instead?
