Overview

Description from the maker (original English)

MCP server for Atera RMM — customers, tickets, and more.

PopNx MCP’s three pillars

These three are never merged into one score: opinions, measurements and popularity are different things.

What you can do with it

We have not written a plain-language summary for this one yet. Below are the facts we read from the registry.

  • Connection: Runs on your computer
  • Transport: stdio
  • Category: Other
  • You need to fill in: ATERA_API_KEY

Install

Pick the AI app you use, then copy the settings.

Before you install

  • Basic checks: 1 of 1 passed
  • Runs on your computer with your user’s permissions (files, network, apps).
  • You fill in yourself: ATERA_API_KEY, MCP_TRANSPORT, AUTH_MODE, LOG_LEVEL

Values marked secret are keys to your account. Never share them or paste them into a chat.

This one runs on your computer, and ChatGPT can only connect to servers on the internet. Pick another app.

Your choice stays on this device in a cookie; no account needed.

Values you fill in

  • ATERA_API_KEY secret required env
    Atera API key (X-Api-Key) for authenticating against the Atera REST API
  • MCP_TRANSPORT env
    Transport mode for the server. Set to 'stdio' for local CLI use; the image defaults to 'http' for gateway hosting.
  • AUTH_MODE env
    Credential source: 'env' reads vars locally, 'gateway' expects header injection from the WYRE MCP Gateway.
  • LOG_LEVEL env
    Log verbosity: debug, info, warn, error

These settings are generated from the maker’s registry entry. If the README says otherwise, follow the README.

Atera MCP Server

Model Context Protocol (MCP) server for interacting with the Atera RMM API. Implements a decision tree architecture for efficient tool discovery and reduced context overhead.

One-Click Deployment

[!IMPORTANT]

Before you click: this server depends on @wyre-technology/node-atera,

which is hosted on the GitHub Packages npm registry. GitHub Packages has no

anonymous access — even though the package is public, every npm install needs a

token. The cloud builder runs npm install for you, so you must give it one, or

the build fails with npm error 401 Unauthorized ... npm.pkg.github.com.

1. Create a GitHub Personal Access Token with the read:packages scope

(classic token).

Any GitHub account works — you do not need to be a member of the

WYRE-AI org to read its public packages.

2. Add it as a build variable when prompted by the deploy flow:

- Cloudflare Workers → set a build variable named `NODE_AUTH_TOKEN` to your PAT

(Workers → Settings → Build → Variables and Secrets).

- DigitalOcean App Platform → set an encrypted env var named `GITHUB_TOKEN`

with scope Build Time to your PAT (the .do/app.yaml already declares it).

[!NOTE]

The DigitalOcean target builds the full Docker image and runs the complete MCP

server over HTTP — this is the recommended path for operators. The Cloudflare

Workers target is currently a thin entrypoint stub (the /mcp route returns

501 Not Implemented) and is best suited to gateway-style deployments; for a

full self-hosted server prefer DigitalOcean or the prebuilt container image

(ghcr.io/wyre-ai/atera-mcp).

Features

  • Decision Tree Navigation: Tools are organized by domain (customers, agents, tickets, alerts, contacts). Navigate to a domain first, then use domain-specific tools.
  • Lazy Client Loading: The Atera client is only instantiated when first needed, reducing startup time.
  • Full API Coverage: Supports customer management, device/agent monitoring, ticket operations, alert handling, and contact management.
  • Rate Limit Handling: Built-in rate limiting via the node-atera client (700 req/min).
  • Interactive Ticket Card (MCP Apps): atera_tickets_get renders as an interactive card in MCP Apps hosts (Claude Desktop/web) with an in-card "Add comment" round-trip via atera_tickets_add_comment (internal-only by default); plain-JSON behavior is unchanged in other hosts. The card is neutral by default and brandable via window.__BRAND__ injection or MCP_BRAND_* env vars (MCP_BRAND_NAME, MCP_BRAND_LOGO_URL, MCP_BRAND_PRIMARY_COLOR, MCP_BRAND_ACCENT_COLOR, MCP_BRAND_BG, MCP_BRAND_TEXT) — no rebuild needed.

Installation

This package is published to the GitHub Packages npm registry, which requires a token even for public packages. Authenticate once, then install:

# Authenticate npm to GitHub Packages (token needs the read:packages scope)

export NODE_AUTH_TOKEN=$(gh auth token) # or a PAT with read:packages

npm install @wyre-ai/atera-mcp

The repo's .npmrc already points the @wyre-ai scope at GitHub Packages and reads the token from NODE_AUTH_TOKEN, so no further config is needed.

Or build from source:

git clone https://github.com/WYRE-AI/atera-mcp.git

cd atera-mcp npm install npm run build

Configuration

Copy .env.example and set the variables below.

VariableRequiredDescription
ATERA_API_KEYFor stdio and AUTH_MODE=envAtera API token or legacy API key from Admin > Data management > API. JWT tokens are sent as Authorization: Bearer; legacy keys are sent as X-API-KEY. The Compose gateway service does not load this variable.
MCP_TRANSPORTNostdio (default) or http
AUTH_MODENogateway (Docker image and Compose default) or env. Gateway mode requires X-Atera-API-Key on each /mcp request and never falls back to ATERA_API_KEY. env uses that variable only after S2S auth succeeds.
CONDUIT_S2S_SECRETYes for HTTPService-to-service secret. Generate with openssl rand -hex 32. The HTTP server logs an error and exits non-zero when this is empty or a known placeholder (changeme, your-s2s-secret, secret, placeholder, and similar public examples). Compose will not start without it. Never commit a real value. The value is never logged.
MCP_ALLOW_INSECURE_DEVNoSet to exactly 1 only for local development to start HTTP without CONDUIT_S2S_SECRET. The process logs a warning, does not enforce X-Gateway-S2S, and forces the listener onto 127.0.0.1 even if MCP_HTTP_HOST is a wider address. A known placeholder secret is still refused.
MCP_HTTP_HOSTNoBind address when MCP_TRANSPORT=http. Defaults to 127.0.0.1 when unset. A configured CONDUIT_S2S_SECRET honors this value. The container image sets 0.0.0.0.
MCP_HTTP_PORTNoHTTP port. Defaults to 8080.

/health stays unauthenticated and does not read credentials. The stdio transport does not use CONDUIT_S2S_SECRET.

HTTP authentication

With MCP_TRANSPORT=http and CONDUIT_S2S_SECRET set, every /mcp request must include X-Gateway-S2S. The check is verifyS2sHeader in src/s2s-verify.ts: the header value is t= ,v1= , where the hex is HMAC-SHA256 of the literal string t= keyed with CONDUIT_S2S_SECRET (64 lowercase hex characters). The timestamp must be within 300 seconds of the server clock. A missing or invalid header returns HTTP 401 before vendor credentials are read.

TS=$(date +%s)

SIG=$(printf 't=%s' "$TS" | openssl dgst -sha256 -hmac "$CONDUIT_S2S_SECRET" -hex | awk '{print $NF}') curl -sS http://127.0.0.1:8080/mcp \ -H 'Content-Type: application/json' \ -H 'Accept: application/json, text/event-stream' \ -H "X-Gateway-S2S: t=${TS},v1=${SIG}" \ -H "X-Atera-API-Key: $ATERA_API_KEY" \ -d '{"jsonrpc":"2.0","id":1,"method":"tools/list"}'

In AUTH_MODE=gateway, /mcp also requires X-Atera-API-Key. That header is the only credential source for the request. With AUTH_MODE=env, the signed request uses ATERA_API_KEY from the environment when the header is absent.

Getting Your API Key
  1. Log into Atera as an admin
  2. Go to Admin > Data management > API
  3. Create an API token (JWT) or copy a legacy API key

JWT tokens (issuer AteraInterop) authenticate with Authorization: Bearer. Legacy static keys authenticate with X-API-KEY. This server selects the header from the key shape, including when the installed node-atera client still sends only X-API-KEY.

Usage

With Claude Desktop

Add to your claude_desktop_config.json:

{

"mcpServers": { "atera": { "command": "npx", "args": ["@wyre-ai/atera-mcp"], "env": { "ATERA_API_KEY": "your-api-key-here" } } } }

With MCP Gateway

Configure in the gateway registry:

{

"name": "atera-mcp", "command": "node", "args": ["/path/to/atera-mcp/dist/index.js"], "env": { "ATERA_API_KEY": "${ATERA_API_KEY}" } }

Docker

The image listens on 0.0.0.0 inside the container (MCP_HTTP_HOST) and defaults to AUTH_MODE=gateway. Publish the port on loopback and pass a real S2S secret. In gateway mode the Atera API key arrives on each request as X-Atera-API-Key; it is not read from the environment.

# Generate the secret first: openssl rand -hex 32

docker build -t atera-mcp . docker run \ -e CONDUIT_S2S_SECRET \ -p 127.0.0.1:8080:8080 \ atera-mcp

Compose refuses to start when CONDUIT_S2S_SECRET is unset, defaults AUTH_MODE to gateway, does not inject ATERA_API_KEY, and publishes 127.0.0.1:8080:8080:

CONDUIT_S2S_SECRET="$CONDUIT_S2S_SECRET" docker compose up

Single-tenant HTTP (AUTH_MODE=env) still requires the S2S secret, then uses ATERA_API_KEY:

docker run \

-e CONDUIT_S2S_SECRET \ -e AUTH_MODE=env \ -e ATERA_API_KEY=your-key \ -p 127.0.0.1:8080:8080 \ atera-mcp

Local HTTP without a secret is development-only. It binds 127.0.0.1 only and logs a warning. A non-loopback MCP_HTTP_HOST is ignored and the override is logged:

MCP_TRANSPORT=http MCP_ALLOW_INSECURE_DEV=1 npm start

Decision Tree Architecture

This server uses a navigation-based approach to tool discovery:

  1. Start: Only atera_navigate tool is available
  2. Navigate: Call atera_navigate with a domain (customers, agents, tickets, alerts, contacts)
  3. Tool list refresh: The server declares tools.listChanged and sends notifications/tools/list_changed so the client re-fetches tools/list
  4. Domain Tools: After that refresh, domain-specific tools are available
  5. Back: Use atera_back to return to domain selection (this also sends notifications/tools/list_changed)

This architecture:

  • Reduces tool list size for better LLM performance
  • Groups related operations logically
  • Minimizes context window usage
