Overview

Description from the maker (original English)

Refactor legacy code into modern, idiomatic code without changing its behavior.

PopNx MCP’s three pillars

These three are never merged into one score: opinions, measurements and popularity are different things.

What you can do with it

We have not written a plain-language summary for this one yet. Below are the facts we read from the registry.

  • Connection: Computer or cloud
  • Transport: stdio, Streamable HTTP
  • Category: Other
  • You need to fill in: OPENAI_API_KEY

Install

Pick the AI app you use, then copy the settings.

Before you install

  • Basic checks: 1 of 1 passed
  • Runs on the maker’s server: what you ask it goes through their server.
  • You fill in yourself: REFACTOR_BACKEND, OPENAI_BASE_URL, OPENAI_API_KEY, OPENAI_MODEL, OLLAMA_HOST, OLLAMA_MODEL, REFACTOR_TIMEOUT_MS

Values marked secret are keys to your account. Never share them or paste them into a chat.

You need

  • Runs in the cloudNothing to install; it connects over the internet
  • npmNode.js installed (for the npx command)

Which app do you use?

Pick your app above. We remember it, so next time the button says “Install in …”.

Works in Claude on the web, desktop and mobile:

  1. Open Settings → Connectors
  2. Press Add custom connector
  3. Paste the address below and press Add
  4. If it asks you to sign in, sign in with the maker

ChatGPT connects only to servers on the internet:

  1. Open ChatGPT on the web → Settings → Connectors (Apps)
  2. Press Create or Add (some plans need Developer mode under Advanced first)
  3. Paste the address below, give it a name and save
  4. If it asks you to sign in, sign in with the maker

Values you fill in

  • REFACTOR_BACKEND env
    Inference backend: 'ollama' (local, code stays on your machine, default) or 'openai' (any OpenAI-compatible cloud endpoint, e.g. DeepSeek).
  • OPENAI_BASE_URL env
    Base URL of the OpenAI-compatible endpoint, e.g. https://api.deepseek.com/v1. Required when REFACTOR_BACKEND=openai.
  • OPENAI_API_KEY secret env
    API key for the cloud endpoint, e.g. a DeepSeek key. Only needed when REFACTOR_BACKEND=openai.
  • OPENAI_MODEL env
    Cloud model name, e.g. deepseek-chat.
  • OLLAMA_HOST env
    Ollama server address used when REFACTOR_BACKEND=ollama.
  • OLLAMA_MODEL env
    Ollama model name used when REFACTOR_BACKEND=ollama.
  • REFACTOR_TIMEOUT_MS env
    Per-call timeout in milliseconds. Raise it for slow local CPU inference.

These settings are generated from the maker’s registry entry. If the README says otherwise, follow the README.

What it can do

We have not read this server’s tool list yet; we check endpoints in rotation.

Common questions

Is Code Refactor safe?

It passed 1 of 1 applicable basic checks. We have not read the code. Before adding a key or token, see what access the server asks for and use a key with only the permissions you need.

What keys or codes does it need?

You need to fill in: OPENAI_API_KEY

Does it run on my computer or in the cloud?

Either way works: install it on your computer or connect to the cloud version.

Is it still maintained?

The GitHub repo last changed –, and the latest version (1.0.4) reached the registry 19 days ago.

Which apps can use it?

Apps that support MCP, such as Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor and VS Code. It connects by URL, so apps that accept remote MCP servers work too, such as ChatGPT in developer mode.

What can I use instead?

workbuddy-code-refactor-connector

refactor_codecode(源代码)、task(重构任务描述)、language(可选,语言提示)执行代码重构,返回重构后的代码与说明

npm install -g workbuddy-code-refactor-connector

npx workbuddy-code-refactor-connector

方式一:本地 Ollama(默认,代码不出本机)
REFACTOR_BACKEND=ollama          # 默认值,可省略

OLLAMA_HOST=http://127.0.0.1:11434 OLLAMA_MODEL=deepseek-coder

REFACTOR_BACKEND=openai

OPENAI_BASE_URL=https://api.deepseek.com/v1 OPENAI_MODEL=deepseek-flash OPENAI_API_KEY=sk-xxxxxxxxxxxx

REFACTOR_BACKENDollama推理后端:ollama \openai
OLLAMA_HOSThttp://127.0.0.1:11434Ollama 服务地址
OLLAMA_MODELdeepseek-coder本地模型名
OPENAI_BASE_URLhttps://api.deepseek.com/v1OpenAI
OPENAI_MODELdeepseek-flash云端模型名
OPENAI_API_KEY无云端接口密钥(openai 后端必填)
REFACTOR_TIMEOUT_MS180000单次推理超时毫秒数(纯 CPU 本地推理较慢,默认放宽到 3 分钟)

{

"mcpServers": { "code-refactor": { "command": "npx", "args": ["-y", "workbuddy-code-refactor-connector"], "env": { "REFACTOR_BACKEND": "ollama", "OLLAMA_MODEL": "deepseek-coder" } } } }

若使用云端后端,在 env 中补充 REFACTOR_BACKEND、OPENAI_BASE_URL、OPENAI_MODEL、OPENAI_API_KEY。
