health_check
Confirm the Sous Chef MCP server is reachable.
list_my_recipes
List the authenticated user's saved Sous Chef recipes. Use this before editing when the user refers to a recipe by name instead of id.
display_recipe
Presents a complete recipe in Sous Chef's interactive recipe card (servings, ingredients, steps, cooking mode, validated edits, Undo). Prefer this over plain chat formatting whenever you generate, retrieve, or substantially revise a full recipe — including ordinary requests like
get_recipe
Returns the saved canonical recipe from your library or the public catalog. In-progress cooking edits live in sessions and are not returned here.
add_recipe
Creates a NEW recipe in your library only when the user explicitly asks to save/add it or taps Save in the recipe card. For a newly generated recipe the user has not chosen to keep, use display_recipe instead. Does not update existing recipes — to change a saved recipe use update
update_recipe
Deliberately updates allowed fields on a saved recipe in your library. Supports title, subtitle, summary, description, images, meta, and notes only; images and notes replace the whole array. Does not change ingredients or steps — use apply_recipe_patches for cooking-time edits in
apply_recipe_patches
Validate and apply explicit edits. Pass recipeId for a persisted cooking session, or pass the full recipe payload from display_recipe to edit an unsaved card without persistence. Does NOT modify the saved recipe in your library.
revert_recipe_edit
Drop a patch group by requestId. Pass recipeId/sessionId for persisted edits, or pass the displayed card's baseRecipe and remaining patch history for a pure unsaved-card Undo. Unknown requestIds are idempotent no-ops.
set_measurement_system
Set measurements without ingredient patches. Pass recipeId for saved session state, or pass the full recipe payload from display_recipe to update an unsaved card without persistence.
delete_recipe
Permanently delete a recipe owned by the authenticated user from their Sous Chef library. This cannot delete public catalog recipes.
share_recipe
Creates (or refreshes) a public Sous Chef link for a recipe and returns the URL. Only call when the user explicitly asks to share a recipe. The page is public, anyone with the link can view it, and it is indexed by search engines; the link shows the recipe as it currently looks,

Sous Chef MCP

Cook, save, and edit recipes from Cursor and other compatible MCP clients.

This repository is the public distribution package for the hosted Sous Chef MCP server. It contains connection manifests, documentation, and brand assets; the Sous Chef application and service source code are maintained separately.

Install in Cursor

Marketplace installation will be available after Cursor review. To test this package locally before then:

Clone this repository directly into Cursor's local plugin folder:

It must be a real directory. Cursor refuses a symlink whose target sits outside ~/.cursor/plugins/local, and it does so silently — the rejection appears only in Cursor's plugin log, never in the UI.

Restart Cursor or run Developer: Reload Window.
Open Customize, confirm that Sous Chef appears under Plugins, and enable its MCP server. It appears under MCPs only once the plugin itself is enabled.
Ask Cursor to display a recipe. Sign in with Sous Chef when you first save a recipe or access your private library.

The package uses Cursor's static OAuth support with authorization code + PKCE. No client secret, API key, or manually copied access token is required.

Saving is always explicit

Displaying a recipe does not save it. Sous Chef only adds a recipe to your private library after you explicitly ask to save it or use the recipe card's Save action. Conversational edits are validated and applied to a working session; they do not mutate the saved original recipe.

Supported tools

Sous Chef currently advertises exactly these ten MCP tools:

health_check checks service availability.
display_recipe validates and displays a recipe without saving it.
list_my_recipes lists recipes in the signed-in user's private library.
get_recipe opens one saved recipe.
add_recipe explicitly saves a new recipe.
update_recipe replaces a recipe only when explicitly requested.
apply_recipe_patches validates and applies structured edits to a cooking session.
revert_recipe_edit undoes the latest complete edit turn.
set_measurement_system changes displayed measurements without rewriting ingredients.
delete_recipe permanently deletes one recipe after host confirmation.

URL import and public recipe search are not exposed through this MCP package.

Cursor can render Sous Chef's interactive recipe card through MCP Apps. Every tool result also includes ordinary text and structured content, so recipes and actions remain readable in compatible hosts that do not render the card.

Data and network access

The manifests connect only to the hosted Sous Chef MCP endpoint:

https://mcp.mysouschef.app/mcp — MCP requests and recipe operations.

That endpoint publishes OAuth metadata for Sous Chef's Auth0 tenant at https://dev-zil2o04swu7qnals.us.auth0.com, which handles sign-in and issues short-lived access tokens. Protected recipe operations are sent to the MCP endpoint with that token. The package does not include analytics, local executables, background scripts, client secrets, or access tokens.

Recipe content and account identifiers are processed to provide the requested recipe operation. Private-library actions require sign-in; anonymous recipe display does not persist a library row. See the live policies for retention, deletion, and third-party processing details:

The MIT license in this repository applies only to this public distribution package. It does not grant a license to Sous Chef's private application, service, model prompts, or infrastructure source code.
