Unofficial. Community-built Claude Code Skill and MCP server for the Datto SaaS Protection
API. Not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Datto, Inc.
▶ Watch the 30-second demo - demo data is simulated; every command shown exists in the real CLI.
Also from Servosity. Backup & DR is Servosity's own field - the first-party Servosity connector brings this same fleet-wide, local-mirror approach (fleet attention, stale backups, restores, QBR reporting) to Servosity Backup and DR.
Comparing backup vendors? One of our MSP partners told us, "My guys now spend a tenth of the time on backups." Fixing is included in every Servosity co-managed backup plan, and our engineers tell you what they did. See how co-managed backup works
Every Datto SaaS Protection (Backupify) client in one local database: seat audits, protection gaps, backup health ranking, exit inventories and plan-first bulk seat changes. Works with the AI you already use - ChatGPT (Plus/Pro+), Claude Desktop, Codex, Claude Code, Claude Cowork, and GitHub Copilot - plus Microsoft 365 Copilot / Copilot Studio and Google Gemini via the remote path. Free, open source, runs on your laptop. Built for MSP owners. No code required.
The six agents MSP owners actually use (self-serve, works today):
| Your AI agent | How to install the Datto SaaS Protection skill |
|---|---|
| Claude Desktop | Run installer, then Settings > Extensions to register datto-saas-mcp (no JSON editing). |
| ChatGPT (paid plans) | Run installer, host datto-saas-mcp over HTTPS with DATTO_SAAS_MCP_HTTP_TOKEN set, then register it as a Developer Mode connector if your connector settings can send the bearer token. |
| Codex CLI | Paste the install prompt below. |
| Claude Code | Paste the install prompt below. |
| Claude Cowork | Paste the install prompt below. |
| GitHub Copilot (VS Code) | Run installer, add datto-saas-mcp to mcp.json under the servers key, then pick Agent mode. |
For ChatGPT, run datto-saas-mcp --transport http with DATTO_SAAS_MCP_HTTP_TOKEN set, on an HTTPS host; every request sends that token. See mcp-install.md.
Big install base, but an honest heads-up: these are the remote / enterprise path, not the local binary you just installed.
| Agent | What it takes |
|---|---|
| Microsoft 365 Copilot / Copilot Studio | Not self-serve. Host datto-saas-mcp over HTTPS with DATTO_SAAS_MCP_HTTP_TOKEN set, then wire it into Copilot Studio (Tools > Add a tool > Model Context Protocol > Server URL) or a declarative agent, if it can send the bearer token. Needs a Copilot Studio license + tenant admin. See mcp-install.md. |
| Google Gemini | Gemini CLI is local - same as Claude Code. The Gemini app is remote - same HTTPS path as ChatGPT. See mcp-install.md. |
Skill-native agents (also covered): Hermes and OpenClaw read this skill's
SKILL.mddirectly *and* speak MCP - see their install sections below. Also works with Cursor, Windsurf, Cline, Continue.dev, and Zed via MCP. Full per-tool wire-up: [docs/which-agent.md](../../docs/which-agent.md).
Run more than one agent? Install across all 51+ supported agents in one command:
npx skills add Servosity/msp-skills@latest(requires Node.js, then run the per-skill installer for the CLI/MCP binaries). See docs/which-agent.md.
.mcpbDownload Datto SaaS Protection MCP (.mcpb) - then open Claude Desktop > Settings > Extensions and select the file. One click, no JSON, no shell. (Browse every Datto SaaS Protection release on the releases page.)
Prefer the Claude Code plugin? Add the marketplace once, then install - works immediately, no directory listing required:
/plugin marketplace add Servosity/msp-skills
/plugin install datto-saas@msp-skills
Copy this into Claude Code, Codex CLI, or Claude Cowork:
Install the Datto SaaS Protection Skill and MCP server from Servosity/msp-skills in this agent workspace. If this workspace uses a POSIX shell (macOS, Linux, WSL, or Bash), run
bash <(curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Servosity/msp-skills/main/skills/datto-saas/install.sh). If it uses Windows PowerShell, runiwr -useb https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Servosity/msp-skills/main/skills/datto-saas/install.ps1 | iex. Then authenticate per the README and rundatto-saas-cli --helpto explore.
The same prompt works in any agent that can run shell.
Windows (PowerShell):
iwr -useb https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Servosity/msp-skills/main/skills/datto-saas/install.ps1 | iex
macOS / Linux:
bash <(curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Servosity/msp-skills/main/skills/datto-saas/install.sh)
The installer drops both datto-saas-cli (the CLI) and datto-saas-mcp (the MCP server) into your user bin path. Claude Code, Codex, and Cowork discover the Skill via SKILL.md in this directory.
Verify:
datto-saas-cli --version
The installer always fetches the current release - re-run it to upgrade:
macOS / Linux:
bash <(curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Servosity/msp-skills/main/skills/datto-saas/install.sh)
Windows (PowerShell):
iwr -useb https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Servosity/msp-skills/main/skills/datto-saas/install.ps1 | iex
Claude Desktop .mcpb users: download the latest .mcpb (top of this section) and re-select it in Settings > Extensions. Claude Code plugin users: /plugin update datto-saas@msp-skills.
After the installer runs, see [mcp-install.md](./mcp-install.md) and [docs/which-agent.md](../../docs/which-agent.md) for the per-agent wire-up - one section per agent, including the GitHub Copilot servers key and the remote Microsoft 365 Copilot / Copilot Studio path. Claude Desktop's Settings > Extensions panel is the simplest path; the MCP config block (for users who prefer editing JSON) is documented in mcp-install.md.
From the Hermes CLI:
hermes skills install servosity/msp-skills/skills/datto-saas --force
Inside a Hermes chat session:
/skills install servosity/msp-skills/skills/datto-saas --force
Hermes speaks MCP natively, so it can also use the datto-saas-mcp server directly - same install path, same env vars.
Tell your OpenClaw agent (copy this):
Install the datto-saas skill from https://github.com/servosity/msp-skills/tree/main/skills/datto-saas. The skill defines how its required CLI (
datto-saas-cli) can be installed via theopenclaw:frontmatter block.
OpenClaw isn't generally available yet; the frontmatter wiring is pre-shipped and will activate the moment OpenClaw launches.
Set the credentials the CLI needs (from your Datto SaaS Protection portal):
DATTO_SAAS_PUBLIC_KEY=<value> DATTO_SAAS_SECRET_KEY=<value> datto-saas-cli doctor
Windows (PowerShell):
$env:DATTO_SAAS_PUBLIC_KEY = "<value>"; $env:DATTO_SAAS_SECRET_KEY = "<value>"; datto-saas-cli doctor
doctor checks config, paths and API reachability, and sends the key pair to the API root (the reachability check) and one read endpoint (the activity log), so a rejected key shows up as a FAIL Credentials: ERROR rejected row and a key without access as WARN scope-limited. It exits 0 even then, so scripts should add --fail-on error (or --fail-on warn).
| Question your MSP keeps asking | Command |
|---|---|
| Which seats across every client are unprotected, newest first? | datto-saas-cli seats gaps --since 30d --agent |
| Where does Datto's seatsUsed disagree with billable and Active seats? | datto-saas-cli seats reconcile --only-flagged --agent |
| Which clients rank worst on backup coverage? | datto-saas-cli backup-health --below 95 --agent |
| How many seats does each client have, by type and state? | datto-saas-cli seats summary --agent |
| One seat table for the fleet, with domains and subscription ids | datto-saas-cli seats roster --state Unprotected,Paused --agent |
| What must I check before a client leaves SaaS Protection? | datto-saas-cli exit-inventory 123456 --data-source live --agent |
| Which batches would license a client's unprotected seats? (sends nothing) | datto-saas-cli seats bulk-plan --action License --state Unprotected --customer 123456 --agent |
Run datto-saas-cli sync first: the fleet commands read the local mirror.

Most Datto SaaS Protection integrations and MCP servers proxy each question into a live API call. That's fine for one record. It dies at scale, when you're asking "which users joined a tenant in the last month and are not backed up, across all 40 clients".
This skill syncs Datto SaaS Protection into a local SQLite mirror with full-text search. Aggregate questions become one local SQL join: instant, offline, and the AI sees the answer, not the raw data. Compound commands like seats reconcile, seats gaps and exit-inventory join across clients, domains, subscriptions and seats - work a stateless API wrapper can't do.
Datto's own seat-management documentation spells out the gap: when Auto-Add is off, or a client's seat cap has been reached, a newly discovered user is added without backups enabled (Exploring Seat Management features). The portal shows that per client. Across a fleet, nobody sees it until a restore request comes in for a user who was never protected. The same seat counts drive the Datto bill, so a seat that is billed but archived, or Active but not billable, is a margin leak that only a manual reconciliation finds.
seats gaps --since 30d lists every unprotected seat across all clients, newest first.seats reconcile --only-flagged shows, per client, where seatsUsed disagrees with billable and Active seats before you invoice.backup-health --below 95 ranks clients worst first by coverage and short backup windows.exit-inventory builds onNur der Anfang wird gezeigt; den Rest findest du im Repo
